dana temple (i believe its DT) runs a hose from his exhaust of his truck to the inside of the tank for a minute or two.

There's a section of the Army field manual (if I'm not mistaken) that details the process. I believe it needs to be somewhat continuous as the goal is to displace any gasoline vapor and (most importantly) replace the oxygen in the tank with Carbon Monoxide. No oxygen, no fire. The exhaust alone doesn't remove the petrol residuals, so if you remove the exhaust flow and allow oxygen back in you're in trouble.

If it were me, I'd do all of the above. Thorough cleaning with solvents, purge with exhaust, etc.

Industrial de-greaser with water and swish around for 10 min. Drain rinse and repeat. = 0 fumes. The problem with any kind of welding is that it is going to leave it exposed to rusting. You will then have to recoat it. DO NOT USE KREME. Por15 process seems to work. Thanks Keeena.

Wirelessly posted (Samsung Lube.... Er, Glyde: Mozilla/5.0 440x240 Samsung SCH-U940 NetFront/3.4)

Thanks for all the input, guys.... It's a pretty knarly dent w/ gouges... I was gonna try n get it ''close enough'' then use some bondo... But I'm thinin I'll let someone else do it for me or find a replacement.... that is, if I do anything about it at all. Depends on cost.

Like someone on the previous page stated... sometimes in welding, you use shielding gas on the INSIDE, of say something like an exhaust manifold to ensure perfect welds and no future cracks.

I had a nasty tank slapper a year ago that i had to fix the dent in...
To get the fumes out, and weld in a new patch, all i did was something like this....

put a match over the top, and it goes like a rocket... it won't explode...
HOWEVER IT WILL EXPLODE IF YOUR TANK LID IS CLOSED.
I'm 20 mins south of Prov. RI if you really want someone fearless to do it for you~ Everyone on here is a pessimist lol. j/k

Finally got around to snappin a couple of pics.

    Think it's salvagable?
I just wanna get it "presentable"... it's a race bike, after all... I just don't like the way my elbow rests on the ridge between the two dents in the left handers.

    Thanks.

Heh, just found this cheap tank on ebay... has pretty similar dents but on the other side.

If you think it's possible to just fill it w/ bondo or whatever then I/we can just do that.
