Edit: SOLD
I have a 'well loved' GS500E, aka a bike that's been handed down from new rider to new rider as their first mount till it reached me, where I opted to race it instead.
Pics below.
It's not mint. The tank is dented, scratched and touched up with spray paint. The clutch side case cover has taken enough abuse that it finally spit off it's ignition trigger cover. (I have a new gasket and a spare motor with a mint trigger plate and cover, so that will be swapped before the bike is handed over to anyone. Did I mention, I have a spare motor?) It's got dings and scratches everywhere. Thanks to my racing it, it now has a Pingel petcock with even less of a reserve than the factory unit.
Worse, when you put a key in, pull the choke and thumb the starter, it starts and runs like a top.
- Forks have racetech springs and emulators installed, along with a beefy fork brace
- Shock is a one off custom Works Performance 3 way adjustable plus ride height adjustment
- Tires are fresh Bridgestone BT45s
- Front brake system is all new as of 2008, including an updated caliper (same as SV650s), radial pump, EBC contour rotor, GFA pads and a stainless line
- Rear brakes have a new EBC contour rotor and pads
- There is a K&N filter in the airbox, carbs adjusted to match
- Centerstand stop is no longer present on the exhaust so the stand isn't mounted
- Woodcraft rearsets (No rear brake switch, I have a brake switch banjo bolt to wire in if they stay on)
- Woodcraft clipons
- Fully drilled for race wiring
- Matching bellypan for racing
- Stock bars/rearsets plus other assorted spares, like a spare motor! (Can be setup with standard ergos at pickup time if requested)
- Modified ignition rotor with 5 degrees more advance
- What used to be a pristine billet ignition trigger cover, sharp edges will be removed before re-installing
- Slingshot Racing keyless gas cap and spare o-rings in the box-o-bits
- No title, as the bike is older than 15 years the state of Maine wouldn't issue me one when I bought it despite having the current one signed over to me
So, this can go one of two ways, I either get a good offer for the bike as a unit, or I can get GOOD commitments on the forks, shock, etc to justify taking it apart and dealing with the unwanted portions.
Anyone interested in a tarted up GS500E with delusions of grandeur or the bits to improve their own GS500E/F?
I want to road race so bad I can taste it, I have a bike and build plotted out, most of the resources needed are just waiting for me to show up with cash in hand to get things rolling. Before I can, the CC needs to be zeroed out.
I don't care if the collective puts a fund together to buy this just to give it a viking funeral at the next LRRS round. Hell I'll tape it for YouTube and maybe give a small speech at the event? As long as I get a respectable amount of cash first, you can rib me all you want after, and bang bars with me on track once again.
If someone wants a track day mount that handles beautifully, is a dream in the wet on rains, is CHEAP and easy to maintain, and wants to focus on riding rather than 7th gear power drifts down the front straight, this is an ideal mount.
If someone wants a starter street machine that they won't feel too bad about dropping, trust me, it won't be new territory for this bike.

is there a price? Did I miss it?
I'll have to see if I still even HAVE the stock shock... I can't stock-a-fy the forks without new damping rods as they needed to be modified for the emulators. I'll shuffle through my parts boxes tonight to see what survived the great purge last year when I moved.
As far as price, my goal is to get $1000 for the collection. Find someone to pony up for the bits I take off, and that's how much cheaper the bike gets.![]()

So do you have the bits to make this streetable? I'm confused.

The bike is and has been street-able since I retired it from racing two years ago. My wife used it to learn on before getting a Duc M620. All I've done since is put my clipons and rearsets back on.
As it sits right now, to pass inspection I have to wire in a banjo bolt pressure switch for the rear brake due to my Woodcraft rearsets; they don't have a provision for the OEM switch. Other than that it's inspectable. I have the switch, and a soldering iron, I just haven't done it yet.
I've actually ridden it with the missing ignition trigger cover plate but that's just because I've been lazy and haven't swapped clutch covers yet. At one point in time I was contemplating tearing down the spare motor and doing a very mild hop up build with it, than just swapping it in instead of mucking with the clutch cover but I rather put the time and effort into a ULSB machine. I have a near mint cover ready to go on the spare motor, and a new gasket to go behind it, again I've just been lazy this winter.
The suspension is sprung for my hefty 135lbs on the track. On the street, with standard bars and rearsets placing the rider in an upright seating position and not in a full tuck over the tank the front is a bit stiff and would do better with the stock springs back in, retaining the emulators. On the track laid over the front it felt perfect to me.

Spares list:
- OEM airbox and filter
- LED turn signal set matching what's on the front
- OEM turn signals
- OEM headlight ears
- OEM turn signal relay (Solid state one installed currently)
- OEM rearsets
- OEM rear brake light switch
- Used front rotor
- Used 16/44 sprocket set, aluminum rear rotor
- New 15 tooth front sprocket
- Braided SS front brake line for use with standard bars
- Used OEM carbs, partially disassembled
- Used sprocket cover
- Slotted cam sprockets
- New wheel bearings / seals / cush rubbers
- Used motor, believe it's an 89
- New clutch cover gasket and crank seal
I do not have the original bars, not sure where they wandered off to. A new set would need to be sourced to return the bike to 'standard' erogs. 'Sport Touring' ergos can be achieved by swapping the clipon mounts from side to side.
I keep tripping over a stock shock. I will donate it to the cause for a race to street conversion.
I wanted emulators. But now i want a 600.
