I spend a lot of time in a variety of forums in the For Sale section.
I love buying from local, like minded people. I hate Craigslist. I hate eBay. Forum Classifieds just plain work.
That being said, I'd love to see this site have more usable classifieds that follow a standard format.
My suggestion is to create sub forums for things for sale so it is not a hodge podge of everything. Standard rules apply to each sub forum with the addition of not cross posting to multiple sub forums.
Example...
- Motorcycles for Sale
- Parts for Sale
- Riding Gear/Accessories for Sale
- Non Motorcycle Related Items For Sale
- Services Offered (for repairs/transport/tire changing/painting/whatever)
- Want to Buy - Motorcycles
- Want to Buy - Parts
- Want to Buy - Gear
- Want to Buy - Services

Subforums in the FOR SALE area aren't really a bad idea...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Do you/we really have that kind of volume? I find the site just fine as is.
I don't think this is a bad idea either but like some previous comments I don't think we have enough volume to justify splitting it up. We could implement thread prefixes to allow people to easily filter based on what they want to see. That would accomplish basically the same thing and not add clutter with a bunch of extra subforums.
Thoughts?

I agree with you Mr. Stein.... not enough volume. I like the prefixes.
I think something as simple as "Bike Related" and "Everything Else" would work well.....

Didn't we try this a couple of years back?

I like this idea.
I actually find it annoying when the classifieds are broken up too much. If you just want to browse to see what people are selling and there's only like 5 things total that are really for sale at one time, it's tedious to dig through all the sub forums. But separating bikes from used toothbrushes does make some sense.
As long as when the "New Posts" button is used any posts in any of the for sale sub-forums appear than it makes sense. If the for sale forums are for some reason excluded from the results of the "New Posts" selection than I wouldn't want to see this.
Agreed.... I always thought it would be nice to see a sub-section of just bikes. It would get annoying scrolling through 3 pages of pots, pans, and lately Tommy Bahama clothing just to find some bikes.
Using thread prefixes, I think we can make everyone happy. People that want to see everything will see everything. People that want to filter it down to specifics, can do so. I'll start working on setting that up soon.

Hey Blacksheep.... go start your own fucking forum and set it up however you want!

I've enabled new prefixes in both the For Sale and Want to Buy forums. A prefix is required for all new posts so eventually this should become more useful. For now it's still somewhat of a mess in there.
