Hi all, my name's Karl, glad to have finally signed up instead of lurking the forum. I'm 19 years old and I'm from West Springfield. Last August I bought my first street bike and project. I rode it for a few months from October to December before I realized that a 30 year old motorcycle, even if it passes inspection, is not roadworthy. The bike, by the way, is just a lowly Honda Hawk.
Actually, this is more the state that it's in now, only it's completely stripped at this moment.
I've also got a large pile of new parts waiting to be installed. It will feel like a brand new ride in the spring, which will be nice to take the MSF course on a bike I'm confident everything is mechanically sound.
This brings me to my question. Can someone refer me to a machinist within 25 miles or so of the Springfield area? My whole project is being held up by stripped/stuck/ruined bolts! I've butchered everything up trying to remove them myself and decided that this part of my project is best left to a professional at this point.
Looking forward to being here!
Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of knowledge on here and use the search tool and forums menu to research other members resurrections and restorations. Although I dont know any machinists out that way:
drill bits, easy outs, torches, wd-40 and most importantly a lot of hammers have always helped me with non-compliant nuts and bolts! Good luck with your build.
Friend: man riding this really hurts my balls
Me: Well you're not supposed to sit on your balls!
Welcome! There is a website out there dedicated to the Hawk...those guys might be able to help you out with getting her put back together. There is a sizeable Hawk community here too.
Good luck with your rebuild.

Yep, I'm a member of hondatwins.net too, although it seems things tend to move slower there. When I talk to people I'm always surprised at the amount of people that had owned a Hawk at some point in their life.
Mazda girl, huh? That's cool, my ex drove an MX-5 Miata, that car got me hooked on cars and Mazdas!
jbmass, thanks for the solid advice, but I've exhausted all those options. Although my mom's boyfriend is now encouraging me to patch up the damage myself haha. This should be interesting. Welding will be required and my experience with that is maybe 5 days of welding at the most...
hot karl's are too messy. I prefer cold karl.
