Thumbs up on the VFR!
For the best all around sportbike, thats it. Best all around, tour, cruise, corner, cool looks and ahhhh comfort without being a rack. Good Choice. Off an on it wins years best sport tourer. Ouch on the valve adjustment. Ride it and have fun.
Did Dave get a deal on that suit because of the color?
welcome new guy...almost bought i viffer myself but ended up with a ZX-12 instead.
enjoy the new toy..or at leaste enjoy stairing at it till the spring thaw. definatly do some group rides and definatly check out the track.
The track definately interests me. However I fear my insurance will not cover damage caused at the track. Is there any truth in that?
I disagree with some of this for reasons which do not need to be posted in this thread.
If you keep your head clear and do what you can to avoid incidents (like not getting caught up in the moment, for example), you'll be fine. Key is to be patient.
There are no trophys or podiums during trackdays, just learning, skill-honing, discovering your own personal limits and, if you're feeling up to it, increasing those limits. It's not about being in front of anyone rather, it's about increasing your safety and comfort as a rider in general.
As far as claiming on insurance, it's all in how you word your claim as to whether or not insurance covers you.
Stigaty (sorry, but that's what I'm calling you from here on in), I gotta say that is one drop dead gorgeous machine!
Black = sex, hands down
Just start rubbing your pennies together right now in anticipation for that valve clearance service. I heard it's a doozie!
I'm up in Hudson, NH if you ever needed help with maintenance or an extra hooligan riding buddy. There are some really sweet roads around here that I'm always happy to take people on.
Welcome to the short bus and enjoy the madness!

Check with your insurance agent. Most insurance companies DO cover damage incurred during a closed course, NON timed, NON competitive, educational event, which are exactly what trackdays are. With that said, if you can ride without crasing on the street, in thory you can ride w/o crashing on the track... Just gotta ride within your ability.Originally Posted by Stiggy

VFRs are great!
But the 5th gen was better![]()
ok let me clear up all this malarky. I will consider myself an authority on this subject because I HAVE a VFR like you are looking at (6th Gen) and I know a thing or two about all the mods, the valve servicing, etc.
#1.) The bike is sick. Vtec is not bad. People who have never ridden one whine about Vtec. It is great for me. I ride the bike slower in town and for that I keep the RPM's low, I ride fast on the track (well, maybe not compared to some of the others here) and I keep the RPM's high. The VTEC switch never bothered me (and you can minimize it with easy mods).
#2.) The ergo's are awesome, the single sided swingarm looks amazing, the engine pulls like crazy, and if you change the air filter, put a PCIII in there, and slap a set of Leo Vince carbon cans on, you will be pushing a few more HP in no time (and looking cool).
#3.) Valve clearance service. This is not needed for YEARS and some guys wait until ~30K miles. This is due to the fact that when the manual says to have it done (I think like 16K miles) something like 0.000023445% of the bikes have ANY issue at all. So most service guys I talk to just say screw it, wait until 32K and have it checked then. It costs a few bucks, but the bike is worth it and 32K miles between big $$$ service isnt bad.
#4.) I love the thing. I took it to the track and it was AWESOME. Oreo (pete) was there teaching at the time. It was incredible. You can really go quick on this thing and since the torque band is so wide, you can hang out all day in gears 2,3,4,5.
#5.) This thing is not a wheelie machine, so wave off if that is what you are going for, but it corners GREAT, brakes GREAT, and accelerates like a fool. Id say top speed is about 160. If you need to do more than that... your a wild man.
#6.) The bikes holds its value pretty well, the center stand makes it easy to lube your chain or clean the back wheel (or swap it if need be). I like the hydraulic actuated clutch more than cable clutches, the brakes (linked) will save your butt, it is a V4... what is there NOT to love about a V4!!
#7.) Lastly, you can ride it a long way and not get too sore. I did a 3500 miler 1.5 years ago, I go for 5-600 mile days now and then. It is not uncomfortable. It is no fat-boy, but it is pretty comfy.
Ok. so. thats out of the way. Get this thing. good luck!

I am going to get up for a few track days. I have NEVER ridden on a track, is there an online how-to or anything about track courtesy and other things I should know?
Thanks for the advice, I will talk with my insurance and see what they say.
Thanks for all that. I am not worried about valve adjustments. I will probably wait until I have some considerable miles before even having it taken care of. Right now at 4200 miles she is barely broken in![]()
As for a wheelie machine, well my first bike was the Harley sportster. I am not into wheelies or stunts or general squidly stupid shit. I love watching stunters though, some real skill is needed to do some of that stuff. But I am not into abusing my machines. I like to run them within the designed limits, doing what they were intended to do. If I was looking to go fast, do wheelies, race, etc, I wouldn't be buying a VFR
Thanks everyone, I am really looking forward to riding with y'all!
My sportster sold today. I'll be getting the VFR next week sometime!

Nope don't know the names.
I got some quick camera time with the vfr outside before having to put it away for winter.
I love the sound of the V-4, the camera dosn't do it justice.
