    Hi! newbie here from lowell

Hello everybody, newbie from lowell looking for some help. I have a 03 cbr600rr that doesn't start. Replaced the battery and regulator and after riding for 2hours I shut it off and try to start it 10mins later and it won't. I was told on another forum that there's some ppl here that would prolly help me out. I think its the stator now but wanna make sure b4 buying it. I don't know how to test it so I'm wwondering if there's anyone here willing to help. Thanks in advance

A lot of batteries don't come charged and that first charge is essential to the battery's life so call whoever you got the battery from and ask them if their batteries come prepped and charged

I'm in Dracut if you want to borrow a battery charger and see if that helps. It sounds like a dead battery.

Re: Hi! newbie here from lowell

from working on a similar issue with my 05 600RR i saw a lot of threads on www.600RR.net for 2003-2004 models where the regulator goes. It is the black box with fins on it on the left side of the bike. I believe it regulates the charging of the battery from the stator

I would take a look at this, I'm not sure how to test it off the top of my head but i do have the full repair manual for 03-06 RR's if you need a copy I can upload the file on a fileshare for you to download.

Re: Hi! newbie here from lowell

You also might want to make a thread particularly looking for help since most people might skip over an intro post that would click and look at a "help me repair this" post.

Have you been on www.600RR.net at all?

If you are still having issue after the weekend PM me and I can take a spin up and try to trouble shoot with ya too.

Re: Hi! newbie here from lowell

I tested it myself and the stator seems to be ok and the battery seems to not have enough voltage but I don't really know cuz I'm not a mechanic. So I took it to a mechanic and did the same test I did and said the stator and r/r was good so it must be the battery..so he took out the battery and tried a different one and saw that the battery was kinda bubbled on the side...stupid me I prolly overcharged it and didn't notice it when I put it back in...it was a cheap battery anyways, I guess u get what u pay for($50). Anyways thanks for everyones help!

Damn, CBR's are STILL having regulator/rectifier issues these days? It was a common problem on my '93. I would have thought Honda would have figured this out after all these years.

are you using a battery tender to charge it, or a different trickle charger.

like i said before i have like 3 chargers, 2 batter tenders and a generic 12V charger. the generic will over charge if you let it while the batter tenders will slightly overcharge, then hold the voltage.

i am the next town over if you want to give it a try.

1 to 2 amp charge for no less than 8 hrs and no more than 12 hrs.

FWIW; I've been using the same automotive style charger for many years without issue.

I guess the first gen:600RR "03-04" have this issue a lot. I haven't heard of any issues with the regulator/rectifier in 2005's and above though.

Glad you got the bike issues worked out.

I am also in Dracut and always looking for people to ride with. I just moved back from CT and my 2 friends I rode with here in Dracut both dont have working bikes so im typically solo. I dont ride crazily but I can typically keep up. Toss me on a list if you are looking for someone to ride with.
