I bout a 2009gsxr750 as my first bike and bonded with it very quickly. Do I think I woulda been bored with a 500 or a 600? Probaly not. My friends got a 2000 yzf 600 that I ride and the only major differences are the acceleration(which goes from shit your pants to slight pucker moment) and probaly the topspeed ill never see anyhow.

I thought I needed a beater when I first started looking, but a good bike really holds its value, so I bought new instead. CBR 600RR and never looked back. Just know your limits and respect the road and you'll be fine.
