Hello. My name's Dave. I've been riding a 2001 gs500 around Boston/Somerville for the last 2 seasons. (I know, I know. little bike) still its fun as hell
Reading up on all your track days makes it sound like a ton of fun. right now only $$ and a lack of free time are keeping me from following through on that. maybe when I upgrade I'll turn the little gs into a track bike
I've been reading up on here for a while but never posted before. just wanted to say hi. anyone from the area have good rides they'd like to recommend?

Hi
At least its still tight, which is more than I can say for smooth tunnel
Oh yeah welcome gs, you can obviously see how things go around here
Supa Motarded! If you see me backin it in, keep watching...Im about to crash

Welcome fellow Masshole to the site where everyone is an asshole
yea. after lurking around for a few weeks. I got a good sense of how things go around here. you guys crack me up tho. gotta say it.
from everything I've read so far about the track it sounds nuts. once you get in, you can't get out. I'm cool with that. just don't know if I'll ever be able to afford to get in.
thanks for the notes. the gs is a great little bike. its my first one so at the beginning I was really impressed with the speed (especially at take off). but after 2 seasons I can see myself moving on at some point. but I've wrenched on it a little and cared for it you know? I don't think I'll ever want to get rid of it. I rode it down to parkway cycle the other day and a salesman told me i should drop the "pussy" bike and get a real one. I asked him if he sold a lot of bikes that way. *cough* Dick! *cough*

I re jetted and put a K&N drop in the airbox. the bike has V&H full exhaust from the PO. Thats it. I need to do the front springs, clip ons, stainless steel lines, I want to go to the lunch box air filter. I've been reading about the sprockets and I don't really understand how those changes work, whats the trade off is it speed off the line for top end speed? my only complaint about the gs is it doesn't have much pull left after 85. it'll get up there but it needs a runway and a tailwind. makes commuting on 93 an adventure.
on the cosmetic side I did the rear fender and swapped out the turn signals for flush mounts. I want to go LED's and dual front headlights (I'm on the fence there tho).
when I need to get new tires I'll probably go bigger than stock
Oh he'll give you more than the tip.
.... even I couldn't resist that one.
Welcome to the forum. My girlfriend just got a '96 GS... we're workin on getting some ak issues taken care of. The bushings around the throttle shafts are leaking making it run pretty lean and there's almost no damping up front... feels like there's no fork oil in there whatsoever. Once that gets taken care of it'll be a great bike for sure.
