I'll be doing my first track day this April 24th with Tony's Track Days and thought I would introduce myself. Current ride is an '03 SV1000S. Hope to see some of you up there.
Nice to meet you, Geebo. I live in the same city, have the same ride, all stock except for Givi hard bags. I'll keep my eyes peeled around town for you.
Enjoy your track day. Buy a set of frame sliders for $70, you dump at the track, the radiator will cost you $700.
Cheers!
Whassup man. Welcome to the site.
Nice Avatar btw
hello and welcome
Probably seen you around. I've seen only a couple other silver SVKS around these parts.
As for frame sliders, I picked up a pair at RJs, but I don't think they'll protect much (including the radiator). I already slid the bike at low speeds during the Lee Parks ARC that I took last year (was really pushing it trying to get a knee down) and scuffed up the side stand, a bar end, a small part of the front fairing, and a small bit of my Yoshi can. Frame sliders didn't even touch. Any suggestions for a different brand?
Thanks for the welcome!
I don't know about RJ's. I think that they are way overpriced and the service is not that great. I always feel like i'm interrupting them when i go in. Maybe just my experience.
Check out ebay for sliders. I picked up some for my gsx-r for under 40 bucks and they look mint and fit like a glove
It's funny you mention that. You're actually not the first person to say the same exact thing to me about service there. There are two people there that usually take care of me and if they're not there, I usually come back another time.
As for sliders, I'm looking for a set of the T-Rex sliders that have a single bolt that runs through the frame of the bike. The sliders are longer and I've heard good things about them on the sv-portal. Unfortunately, I can't find them on ebay anymore. I'll keep looking.
Another great place for service is Souhegan Valley Motorsports. It's a little bit of a ride but Sean and Chris Mullin are really helpful and always willing to spend time to help you out.

Really good guys.
If you're around this Wednesday are you down for some riding?
I got my sliders through Oneida Suzuki, made specifically by Suzuki for the SV (think they were about $50). They don't go through the frame, but replace the engine mount bolts with sliders that mount to the frame just behind the radiator tabs off of the frame).
I've never had a bad experience regarding service at RJ's, although Roger does get a bit wound up when things get busy. Roger does know his stuff. He and his wife are genuine people, and really bend over backwards once they get to know you.
Roger can be a hardass when it comes to buying things off the net and then getting service done, but if you pay a bit more through him, he'll generally mount tires or do service for minimal or nothing. Trade off you make for his markup. RJ's worked on my old XR (carb cleaning, valve adjust, decompression fitting replacements and head gasket work, plus hub bearings for a little over $150 including parts last year), did a great job.
They support me every year for all my charity fundraisers, like I said, good people.
Go where you feel comfortable, bottom line.
Heading to Montreal on the SV for lunch at the end of the month, yea hah!
I know this is a stretch, but I was watching an old Two Wheel Tuesday show on Speed where there was this dude that had come up with this engine, casing protector. I think it was basicaly a bolt on iron pipe protector, that saved you alot of $$ when you dropped your bike. Does any of this sound right??
If you got an SV ... may I recommend Motosliders
The OEM Suzuki ones suck purple donkey dick ... they are brittle and shatter.
I have crashed tested the motosliders 3 times already ... they grind right down
saving the frame. Plus he has combo spool/sliders for the swingarm.
I got pictures to show you how well they work if you want to see them.
Dude, Why don't you tell me how you really feel. Don't pull any punches man! Tell me how it really is....Just Kidding!
I think I might upgrade to the motosliders, haven't been down on the SV yet, but I had these already so I run em'. Thanks for the input, information is good, Currently.
There is nothing that pisses me off more than spending good money for crap.
OE sliders with OE lowers
Check out Jimmie's post half way down the page.
Motosliders vs. any other frame sliders
Now imagine you spent that money and now got to come up with
700 bucks for radiator repair plus ancilliary damages.
I will repeat it ... OEM Suzuki frame sliders suck purple donkey dick!
You want to buy them, go ahead, if you already got them, you now know
how they will hold up. Personally, I would put them on ebay and get good
ones that really work.
By the way, mine were "tested" last night with a small lowside.
Radiator is fine, frame is fine, swingarm is fine.
Needed a new bar-end and shift lever ... that is all.
Yeah, I was actually looking at those a while ago. I was going to go with the T-Rex sliders on ebay as they seem to be exactly like the motosliders. Unfortunatley, he doesn't have them in stock and won't get them in for at least another 60 days. I might just go with the motosliders as it seems they have the most real world "tests." Since they mount on a different part of the frame from where my existing sliders are located, I guess I can just leave them both on? Would that look stupid?
I have 'tested' them now 3 times.
They are very well designed to absorb large amounts of energy and
sacrifice itself instead of your fairings, radiator, frame and swingarm.
I am a mechanical engineer by training and I understand the thought
and design that went into them. He does have a fanatical following
among SVRiders that was earned through hundreds if not thousands
of crashes. I still don't get why Suzuki puts that crap on the market.
