Hey there, I was looking for a board thats local to New England for street bikes, and this looks to be my best bet.I dont own a bike, never have, but am just dying to buy a bike. I'm 22, hold a steady job, putting away money for a house, but just need something to get out on and on my own and a bike looks like just the ticket.
I'm planning on taking the MSF maybe sometime this June/July in Orange, MA and kinda want someone to buddy up with, as I dont have anyone local to go with, figure it would make things a little more fun.
I've only ridden dirt bikes a few times, and even then from what I've heard they arent even close, so basically I have 0 experience. Saw those track days up at Loudon race track though, and I'm considering making the 2-3 hour ride up there and maybe try to be a corner watcher or whatever, just to see some real riding in action.
Just saying hi, and looking to buy a bike this fall/winter and get out next spring, I've done alot of reading already, but figure I'll educate myself the best I can so I have my head about me when I finally get out there. I'm in rush either, I got my whole life ahead of me to ride, so no need to hurry it and get myself hurt.![]()
sounds like ya got a good head on yer shoulders, bro. welcome to NESR.
you're actually in the same boat i was when i first got into riding... rode dirtbikes a couple times, but nothin more... signed up for the MSF w/ my buddy but didn't get a bike till 3 years later when i was 24.
if you're plannin on taking it w/in the next couple of months, then you'll probably wanna sign up for it ASAP... the classes fill up FAST.
one of the best parts about MSF though, is you don't HAVE to go w/ a friend, just make a couple there... you've already got a common interest![]()

dunno if this happened in other people's MSF course, but when I took it it was *very* obvious who was going to end up on a cruiser and who was going to end up on a sport bike. there even ended up being two 'factions' in the *classroom*. it was really funny.

Looking at prices, and seeing what costs what, I'm thinking I'll either A) Pick up an early/mid 90's Ninja EX250/500 or something of the like, B) Grab a late 80s Honda CB of some type, or C) Maybe luck out and find a late 90's Suzuki SV for a nice price. The urge to just pick up an 00 GSX-R or something like that is very tempting, but then you think about it, and really, theres no rush whatsoever to jump on a bike that you could really grab too much throttle on.
Thanks for the welcome.
Welcome to NESR.
Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders...

welcome...U'll meet people there. Good Luck
Jesus, this is getting bad. I've been thinking about getting a bike for about 3-4 months now, but now its like blue balls, I just gotta git er done cause its driving me crazy.![]()
haha, yeah I was wondering when you said you wanted to get one this fall/winter...you'll go crazy! I just bought mine a couple months ago and with all the rain lately I was on the brink of insanity not riding it.
But anyway, I went to an MSF course in April by myself. I met a couple of cool people, one I pretty much paired up with because we were both prior military so we had something to chat about during our breaks. You'll meet someone there plus all of the people there are in the same shoes you are, so there is no reason to be uncomfortable or whatever.
I was the ONLY sportbike rider there too...5+ people had already gone out and bought new fatboys in anticpation. Only 8 of us in the class and everyone passed.

hey jeff, im a newbie to the site too. ive been riding for 4 years. started on a 99 gsxr 600. it was a great bike. i just wanted to caution you about buying something you may grow out of very quickly. a 250 is a great beginner bike, but i think youll find yourself wishing you had more before long. a 600 had plenty of go, but was controllable and a great bike to learn on. keep me posted on your final decision

as long as it's mechanically sound, that's a great beginner bike![]()

Its got 30K on it, and the plastics show it up close, but he says it runs fine, and thats all I'm really concerned with.Originally posted by OreoGaborio

sounds like a good deal. honda bikes are like honda cars. my 02 954 has 13000 on it and i ride it real hard it starts and runs perfect. as long as you keep up with maintenance you should be good for many more miles.

If it's the bike that I think it is, then it runs great. I've been on a few rides with him and it certainly holds its own.Originally posted by JeffL

I've been on a few rides with him and it certainly holds its own.I'm incapable of riding (or at least I will have to assume I am) so I'll have to take his word for it as far as their being no quirks/mechanical issues with it, which hes been honest about, so I bet its just as he says it is.

I've ridden with Swifttone a few times...bike is in good shape. check the guide to buying a used bike on www.bostonbiker.com. it is one of the most comprehensive guides I've ever seen. ever.
