    Well that was unexpected...

First, the bad news: I was told yesterday by my boss that my position within the account is "being dissolved"... yeah, I pooped.

The good news: over the next few months I'll be handing off all of my current projects to other existing employees and transitioning over to my new role as the Boston Area Training Manager.

What bumms me out is that this is just as much a punitive decision as anything else, as it's pretty much the result of me not living up to the client's expectations. I was handed some pretty big projects and they didn't work out as well as I had hoped.

But I see the silver lining here and it's pretty bright... The position I've been in for the last two years has been pretty friggin hard and it seemed to me as though there was a bit of a glass ceiling hanging over my head. In this new position, if I bust my ass and knock this one out of the park, I have a very good shot at moving up to National Training Manager... Not a bad gig. Possibly a career maker.

Bottom line: I've still got a job. And for that I'm extremely thankful.

    Wish me luck.

Maybe the other job just wasn't "you" and maybe the new position will suit you perfectly.

    Re: Well that was unexpected...

I tried larger-scale program management; it didn't work for me and was at best unpleasant, at times truly miserable. But it added perspective that has helped me further down the road, even though it seemed like a real kick in the nuts at the time. I don't know too much about your situation, but I would hesitate to call it punitive; it sounds to me like they're trying to best utilize your abilities and give you a path to success.

Take the ball and run with it; you're better off in the long run.

the good thing is you obviously know where you had failures. its not a mystery. now as long as you can turn them around in the new position you should be able to go after this new goal.

    congrats pete!

I'm pretty sure Petes goatee is what molested the clients of his moms alter boy.

Not sure if I should say sorry Pete, or good job, but whatever, you still have a job. Now lets see some pictures of your girlfriend topless!

    Re: Well that was unexpected...

Although I am no longer in the industry (thankfully) it was always my experience that in order to be successful the following must happen:

-You must bust your ass for a period of at least a year, trying to implement great new ideas and ways to better the program, only to have the corporate security director shoot them down(usually because they simply do not understand what needs to be done).

It always seems that the best, brightest and most competent security managers are removed from an account due to what is described as "not meeting expectations" only to land on their feet, a very short time later, in a far better position than they were in previously.

Best of luck Pete. You're a bright guy and I'm sure you'll look back and be glad this all happened.

It's a little more complex than that, but yeah, pretty much I think Scott hit it when he said...

... it's a little bit of both. Obviously I didn't succeed in my current position, but I wouldn't still be here if it weren't for the fact that they recognize and value my strengths. I don't want to get too into it, but lets just say this is a real life example of "survival of the fittest". My head wasn't the only one near the chopping block.

Word. I had a 2 hour long meeting with one of my peers to discuss where/how I can improve. Gonna hang my notes from that meeting up on the wall.

    Thanks.
