According to the Guinness World Records Web site, the record for heaviest man in the world is 1,397 pounds, held by Jon Brower Minnoch of Bainbridge, Washington, who died in 1983.

Now theres a record to be proud of...

Well it is one thing to give your bud a hard time cause he is getting a beer belly.

A 1000lb guy you just have to feel sorry for. I don't really buy into the idea that Americans are getting fatter because of diseases, etc.. but 1000lbs... the guy has something wrong with him.

Good for him & his doctors if he can lose enough weight to live a normal life.

elaineo....you have to know, because it seems you don't...that some people have problems with their weight since birth. They are born with malfunctions. I'm no doctor, so I cannot explain all that to you. I think one of those problems are malfunctioning thyroid gland. Of course, like you and I, they need to eat anyway. And their stomach is so big, that they eat more of course. Not because they want to. But not to starve themselves. One of the way to remedy to this is surgery, to remove some part of the stomach, and also to cut off some fat from their body. With the stomach being smaller, they have no choice to eat less, but unfortunatly, this is only one small step to resolve a "big" problem. But it is a big relief to them, to loose pounds a little bit at a time, and try to get to a point where they can feel normal like everyone else. They are not big like that because they ate like pigs and didn't care about their appearance....they are this way because nature made them this way. (with a few exceptions of course, some people get fat just because they are indeed PIGS.)

Read the article. They didn't cut out his stomach, or suck out his fat, or any other fancy medical operation. They put him on a diet, and he started losing weight. Why was that so hard to figure out?

Geez...if he only cut down to 5 big macs for lunch instead of 7-8 and maybe traded that coke for a diet.......

I agree elaine....someone was going out and bringing back for him huge (and I mean huge) portions of food. Since he could not get out of bed, you would think it would be easy to just not bring him so much...
