So the s-10 probably isn't going to workout.
My friend has an auto 2wd 91 ranger w' ~90k miles.
What should I look out for, blah blah blah
Brake lines and master cylinder for seepage just due to age. I had a '93 and it had this very enjoyable problem.
Find a Toyota. Enough said.

I had a 90 Aerostar w 3.0 V6, the 3.0 was prone to head gasket problems, tranny had problems with overdrive

most reliable & cheapest vehicle I have owned is a 3 series BMW

My Toyota has been the cheapest to fix and most reliable out of any vehicle I have ever owned.

f*ck toyota...they hold their value too well. So if I want to spend ~$2,000 on a toyota truck, it'll be from 1987 with 180,000 miles on it, with rust along the doors and wheel wells.
The Ford 3.8 V6 is prone to headgasket problems. I had an 89 cougar and went through 2 head gaskets. Everyone I called for parts or to shave the heads asked what car and when I told them they said "oh you have a 3.8".Originally posted by RandyO

You suck at life. Why don't you quit?
My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
Buy what you like.Bring it to your mechanic to go through.
For the money that you plan on spending you're going to drop money into anything you get.
My suggestion is, if its for a winter bomb, a big 4 door sedan they are cheap and every where.![]()

well, the 3.0 in my aerostar blew a head gaskettwice for me too, first time a bunch of head bolts let go, second time I drove it to the boneyard and I remember my mechanic telling me it was quite common tooOriginally posted by dhuze

The truth in this is that anything that old, you will more then likely be putting $$ into every month unless you are buying it off a jackass* that has already done this and replaced nearly everything conceivable that could go besides the frame itself.
* - I would have been a good jackass to buy said vehicle off of a year ago, except I gave mine to a relative who fell on hard times and promptly totalled it for me, the irony kills me![]()
the ranger is a tried and true platform. find a cheap 2wd, 4 banger 2.3 ltr, 5 spd combo. good little motors that last forever. there everywhere and cheap.
I second this, they can be had used for 1500 - 2500 for the older ones in decent condition. They might require some light maintenance but nothing major.Originally posted by mikeb
