Blue tape

Does anyone know if blue painters tape will damage the finish of a car if I leave it on for a couple of days? I'm trying to get a cover on my truck bed squared properly after the "professional" installers effed it up pretty bad (and are footing the $487 dollar bill to repair one spot) and I want to make sure its not rubbin in a spot or two.

Nope, shouldn't - and should be fairly easy to remove as long as it's not in direct sunlight most of the time.

You should be fine for one or two days - I'd take it off and replace it if it went any longer then that. Wash and dry the area good before putting the tape on. Any residue should come off with WD-40, then another wash, and a quick wax.

i've left it on my race bodywork for a few days and it was fine, but be careful as mentioned above (and wd-40 is the shit)

I'd recommend microfiber towels and goo-gone for the removal of any transient adhesive.
WD or rubbing alcohol are cool but will haze some clearcoats.


If it's in an area you're not expecting alot of wind, you could try the green tape instead of blue, or 'delicate surfaces' masking tape.

take a look at the inside of the roll, it will say how many days it can be left on without it taking off what it's attached to.
Most are 14days

like everyone said, it shouldn't be a problem. a lot of peope who drive their cars to car shows do it.
