I've always had good luck with hotwire.com.![]()
First try sites like Travelocity and Orbitz. Find the hotel you want to stay in and get pricing and contact info. Next, go to the websites of the hotels they list and check their pricing out directly. A good portion of the time (more than enough to make it worth checking) the hotel's website will list lower rates for the same room then the travel sites.
You can also call the hotel directly and ask for their best rates or if they are running any special promotions. Make sure to ask if you can save money by using internet booking because it is often cheaper.
Next, book through the hotel's site and enjoy a several more beers a night with the money you will probably save.
Also see if you can find a phone number for a tourism center in the area you are visiting. They are usually very helpful when it comes to finding good hotels including smaller mom & pop establishments that are not part of the travel search engines.
Stay away from places that rent rooms by the hour...
Do you have AAA? Even if you don't have it... you should ask if they give the AAA discount, which can be huge.

I wonder if hotels.com would have any information on hotels?
