Not looking to spend thousands of dollars either. lol
Solid wood, beech countertop (butcher block). Custom size.
Ikea advertises them online but no stores have them in stock at all and they say they arent getting any more.
Also, if I have to spend one more minute in Ikea I will shoot someone. It took me 20 minutes to get out of that place today.

Mike, was yours solid (numerar) or akerby (which is veneer)?
No solid in stock any more.
Degs - Any interest in getting a log length and sending it to the mill? I have a mountain of oak I've been processing and am willing to help in some way. I know there are a couple mills near me.
This is the first half of it...
The other half is still log length with some of the rounds exceeding 30" across. Just throwing another option out there...
we had this discussion in my office last week, one of my employees wants to build a custom butcherblock countertop, he will be getting his wood at http://goosebaylumber.net/

nice job. how was the join to do?
I like the backsplash tricky.
McMaster Carr sells butcher blocks in various lengths. We bought one to span across 2 of our tool boxes we have side by side at work because snap-on's tops are sized only to fit each individual box. We put 4 coats of poly on it and it has held up surprisingly well. It still has that mirror shine on it.
thanks guys.
The 45-degree joint was a bit of a pain in the ass to be honest, mainly because that long piece is 8 feet long and too big/heavy for my table saw setup (I need a better outfeed table but don't have the room.) I cut the two 45's and then cut three channels perpendicular to the 45 that I used to add some maple reinforcements and clamped the shit out of it with some 8' Bessey K-body clamps. Once everything dried up I sanded the joint flush and finished with mineral oil.
