Going to Cape Ann to do some diving in Maine (taking the boat in Gloucester MA), beach lounging, small town boutique shopping, Outdoor/Sports big store in Kittery Maine, maybe some whale watching with the kids (never done that), etc. I was looking at a family campground that is tent friendly (needs trees and SHADE!) and somewhat fun for the kids (pool, playground or arcade, camp store, etc.)
The only one that seems decent is Cape Ann Campsite in Gloucester MA. The others that are fairly close to Gloucester would be Black Bear Campground, Salisbury State Park and The Pines Campsite in Salisbury. Black Bear has terrible reviews (dirty, white trash trailerpark type of atmosphere, unfriendly staff, etc.)...and The Pines Campsite doesn't seem to have much better luck. Salisbury State Park camp sites are said to have no shade at all....it's basically beach camp sites, more appropriate for campers and RV's.
Cape Ann camp site seems to be the nicest one with very good reviews...but there is literally NOTHING to do there for the kids. No pool, no playground...not a even a swingset. But it is less than a mile from a beach...where I guess from what I heard...would be faster to get to using our mountain bikes rather than the truck, as apparently the traffic will be slow and jammed. Something about that weekend being the blessing of boats?
I believe I saw online there is supposed to be some nice fireworks somewhere in that area?
Any of you know of a nice campground that might not be advertised online...gramma and grandpa style, clean and cozy? Let me know...thanks.![]()
