It's an 07 escalade, battery is probably a year old. Anyhow last week it wouldn't start, lights all came on, radio etc but it just clicked and no crank at all. An hour later it started fine. No jump or anything. Today won't start again.

Could it be the battery - just seems odd as it's a newish battery and all the electronics are fine.

Is the immobilizer light flashing? If so it could be an issue with that.

I would try to get a multimeter on the starter when it isn't starting. If your getting 12 volts to the starter when you turn the key, the starter is bad.

Does the starter repeatedly click when you try to start it? Or does it click only once?

If it clicks repeatedly, it's likely a bad connection somewhere, likely the battery terminals.

If it only clicks once, it's the starter.

Next time when it won't start whack the starter with a dead blow mallet or something similar and try it. Sometimes when they are going bad they have a dead spot and whacking it <the starter that is> can free it up and get you going.

I think it`s the starter also. Could be something else but if you have everything else IE;lights the logical conclusion would be something to do with the starter. Sounds like the bendix spring is not pushing the starter all the way into the flywheel ( 1 click). Common problem and not a big job.

Thanks folks. Waiting on the mobile roadside tech - hopefully it's not some tool with a jump box and they can get it fixed without a tow. Probably the only perk of owning a Cadillac!

Starter is right! Guy is wiggling and jiggling it and it started. He thinks there is a loose connection.
