Looking for some opinions/suggestions for some quality snow/winter boots. I want to stay warm and dry, don't mind spending a couple bucks if they are going to last. Primarily I'll be wearing them for snowblowing/shoveling and hiking with the dogs (this year) and possibly some mushing with the dogs (next year, just for fun, not competition). The hiking will be a mix of trails (unimproved) as well as walks around the neighborhood along with general outdoor playing.
P.S. I need opinions on mens and womans boots as my wife will need a good pair as well.

I've had these for the last 5 or so years and can't say enough good things. Even on the coldest days my feet feel like they are in mini ovens.
I went to REI and got Salomon snow boots last year - thinsulate and gortex (warm and waterproof) they are really good for trudging around in snow, hiking, playing w dogs, shoveling and not looking like a complete jackass in public
these rock

Sorel 1964's
I have a pair that is now almost 30 years old, just showing signs of rubber deterioration, I'll probably replace them this year
depending on the grade of removable liner, that are good to -100°F
normally I wear them with my blue -40° liners, for regular use, the -100° liners, I use them for winter riding, even at 75mph in below zero weather my toes have never been cold
I usually have 3-4 pairs of liners kicking around, if they get damp from sweat or I step in water over the top, swap em out, put a pair of dry liners in when the wet ones are drying

Rocky makes good boots also. I had a pair rated to -140 or something. Lasted me 3 years of snowmaking and a couple seasons of snowmobiling. Feet never got cold until the last year (could've had something to do with some aftermarket vents I installed).

cool thanks for all the responses. will be looking into some of these (not the 1k ones, jesus). i like the idea of the removal, variable temp liners as the potential for my feet to get cold snowblowing is going to be different than hiking with the dogs.
pete and denno, thanks for your imput but i need something taller. at no point did i say i need a pair of boots to keep my feet warm from my house to my truck. go back and try again.

Sorel and Kodiac make excellent boots, more than what you need for our winters here in New England (which are much milder than Quebec winters). Other good brands are The North Face, Merrell, Kamik and Keen.
When I used to live in Quebec, I always had Sorel or Kodiac, I never had cold toes, always toasty.

I got a pair of Wolverines on sale at bob's for 35 bucks.
They are Thinsulate and Gortex lined. Smart wool socks and I have never had a problem stomping through ice and mud while 4 wheeling in the dead of winter.
I want to spend money on a better pair but can't justify it since these have worked so well.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
I got a pair at Arctic Sport Muck Boots from LL Bean. For snow blowing hiking they really are good. Not made for long walks or ankle support but for snow removal, walks with the dog in high snow they do what they need to do. Totally waterproof, high colloar, and since they are just plain bad weather boots its nice to do nothing more than slide them off when your back from the cold and in no nood to deal with laces.
plus they have the same good for life bean backing. Somethign wears out or goes wrong you get another pair.

+1 on Sorel.
I had my first pair for 25 years.
Bought them again and got some for my wife too.
Sorel or Bamfs nothing warmer....
If the boots are for being warm and dry then I would also recommend using this stuff... I use to manage a group of shovelers for a plow company and was outside for almost the whole duration of every storm for about 5 years in a row and once your boots got wet you were miserable and cold for the rest of the time there. I started using this stuff and it's amazing!! It makes any boot extra extra water tight but it tends to dis-color the leather too. It's basically Bee's Wax with some other stuff added to make it more pliable
You apply it then use a hair dryer or heat gun to melt the Bee's wax right into the fabric of the boot!
