That was a couple years ago. I was watching that race. I dont think the announcers saw how close that bike came to taking his head off until the replay.

Hmm. Part of the video shows tire intact with wheel still spinning apon impact. Maybe something caused the back tire to lock for a bit? Problem with traction control computer or brakes?

The contact patch is at the bottom of the tire... that's where the smoke would come from if it locked up.
