I agree that this is likely the reason that the vehicles look the same. What I would like to see if a manufacturer that decides that a little bit of styling is a better alternative to an MPG number. Make something aesthetically pleasing and accept the penalty.

The business I work in deals with this in a different capacity, the systems we build for certain uses should just be large rectangular boxes as they are industrial machines buried in areas where they are only seen by those who work with them. However for some reason the business people consult with industrial design teams and insist on making elaborate cover sets that are very expensive, difficult to assemble and a pain to maintain so that the outside of the system will remain within the company's branding profile. This is only important at any level to the people making the buying decisions very high up the food chain at the customer. I'd like to see the company say we are going to build the big box that the system should be and either add the money that would have gone to the intricate covers to the bottom line or pass the savings off to the end user and make the system less expensive or some combination there of. It would make everyone on the manufacturing side's life a lot easier.

Saw another take on why vehicles have all assumed the same general shape yesterday, regulation. By regulation the writer meant things like crash standards and things like that on top of the MPG ratings that need to be met.

You’d be surprised about how many Prius owners own full-size pickups. Those get lousy mpg ( except for Bubba’s) so it’s their commuter.

It is less about performance capability as it is about styling. The Bolt EV is an econo box and though the 23 Prius is more sleek then past versions have been it is still lacking in style/panache.

As impressive as the performance numbers out of the Tesla vehicles is they are still very bland vehicles in my opinion. Impressive but bland.

I happen to not be bothered by the look of the Rivian however coworkers think it is ugly though enamored with the performance.

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning price balloons yet again, starts at nearly $58,000 now

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is getting more expensive, again. Ford’s electric truck has already been subject to several huge price increases this year, and today’s price revelations are more of the same.

According to the truck’s online configurator, the base Lightning Pro now starts at $57,869, an increase of $4,100. If you recall all the headlines and great press from the Lightning’s initial launch, the big news then was that the base Pro would start at about $40,000. Ford may have launched with this impressive price, but in the span of a few months, the price has gone up by over $16,000.

Ford blamed the most recent increase in price from October on global supply chain issues, rising material costs and more. We asked Ford for comment on this month’s increase, too, and received a similar statement from a company spokesperson in response.

"We adjust pricing as a normal course of business due to rising material costs, market factors, and ongoing supply chain constraints."

Unfortunately, it’s not just the Pro that’s going up in price. The XLT trim is subject to the same $4,100 increase, making that truck’s new starting price $65,369.

On the bright side, both the Lariat and Platinum models aren’t seeing big price bumps. The Lariat goes up $100 to $76,369, and the Platinum is weirdly $350 cheaper now at $98,319.

The good news for anybody with a previous order is that Ford will honor the price at which they placed their order at. New orders for 2023 model year Lightnings will be subject to the price increases detailed in this story.
