    Re: 23 mpg

I'm still getting right around 20MPG with the Silverado if I use it strictly for commuting. Even with a coupla runs to the property this weekend (up & over Prospect Mountain, down another dirt road, then down a discontinued class VI road) and a coupla waste-of-gas trips here & there, the last tank I still got 18.7...

I don't envy you guys right now. One small positive of being stuck in Korea this year, don't have to drive anywhere, that means my WRX and bike are sitting at home not being filled with the super gas they both require. More money in my pocket.

    Re: 23 mpg

most of the time I get 19-21

23 is the best I have ever seen, the oil milage isn't quite as good though, it's a leaker, at least 1 quart every tank of gas, with 311k and everything else wrong with the jeep, passenger door window motor seized, rear door locked shut, heater control seized at about 75% heat, etc. it's not worth fixin leaks

I was always surprised at how good the Cherokee was on gas even with an auto; the ex had a 99. At 23mpg I'm guessing that was mostly 50mph or slower? It's amazing the mileage that can be had by slowing down...my last tank in the Aveo calculated out at 46mpg.

ya, I rarely see over 55 on the speedo, also rarely see 5th gear, 50% is probably gravel road miles and the last tank that I got such good milage included close to 100 miles of employees using the jeep, who knows how they drive

That's like calling Big Shirl's CTS a 'little V6 sedan'. Which by the way, gets about the same as my truck and your little V6 sedan. Which also by the way, is why she's actually thinking of trading it for something better on gas. Needless to say, I'm 100% against it. But she's doing about 30,000+/year, and her petrol bill is driving her crazy!

I can't speak for Randy, but my commute averages about 40-45MPH over the course of the week (about +/- 400 miles total). It's mostly NH route 28 north of Manch/Hooksett, then some local roads. Even on the highway though, I usually just set it at 65-70...

Same here, but then I think we should have known what we were getting into when we bought sedans with 3.5L engines in them

Ouch. Suddenly 16 in my V6 doesn't hurt so bad. Though knowing that I'm paying $0.25/mile I drive with gas at $4/gal hurts.

As far as the bike goes, I'm running 87 in my SV1k, getting ~37/gal...needs a TB sync which is supposed to do wonders.

ha that's a little deceiving. most of my driving is 5 miles to work. If I do any highway driving it goes up pretty good. Best I've seen is 24 with the bike in the back going about 85-90mph all highway. lately I've been driving a bit slower and watching where it shifts to try to get the mpg to go up. but yes it makes me wish I got the V6.

    Re: 23 mpg

My old Jeep only managed 14MPG. Both of my vans only manage 14 as well. One is a 6 cyl and the other is an 8. I am looking for something better right now. My 6 cylinder van took $147 to fill the other day. The 8 only takes $125.

There is absolutely no good reason cars of this size need 3L 300hp engines except that it makes everything so much more awesome.
