Hey all, Stephanie and I just adopted a friend of hers dog, Oscar.
We picked him up Wednesday at like 7pm. No collar, no leash, no food, just a soaking wet long haired golden Dachshund. He's about 8 years old. Cute son of a bitch...
We want to have him shaved. I spent about 2 hours cutting out matted hair, I've already given him a bath, but we wanna shave him..
Petco says they need proof of shots, etc....lol, lucky just to get the dog itself..
Any recommendations? I know there are tons of dog lovers on NESR....
Call a vet, have the dog given all shots and checked out. Take paperwork to Petco and get on with the grooming.
I too have adopted a couple of dogs, it's gone that way each time for me. If you keep your eyes open, some towns do discounted shots via clinics during the summer. I want to say it'll cost you less than $100 for the shots if you visit a vet but that is not a quote.![]()

Does the dog bark with a Boston accent? And will we meet said dog next month?

I'm with him. I think any situation where a dog groomer/doggy daycare/City dog park/etc. has temporary custody of the dog (or in the dog park situation, where the dog is playing with other dogs on City/Town property) requires proof of vaccinations for liability purposes.
So vet or electric razor!
Yes, we plan on a full veterinary visit soon, I just gotta shave this dude asap....
I suppose I'll just buy some electric clippers and goto town....
Mike, I didn't even think to bring Oscar to round 6....I'm sure Steph will agree to it!
Oscar is awesome and so are you and your Girl friend for taking care of Oscar. That's a great thing your doing. Oscar is a a lucky dog.

Just found out Oscar has not had a vet visit in 3 years...no shots or anything.
Looks like I have a clear path of action to take now.
Thanks for the help everyone!
After his real Vet visit, going forward you might look into LuvMyPet clinics. They are at least half the cost of a regular Vet visit for the same service.
Thanks Drew, I'll check them out!
