Unhappy The down side of warm weather

No sooner than we have some nice weather and I have an awful case of poison ivy! I HATE being itchy. It covers about 50% of my body and it sucks.

Easiest way to get poison ivy this time of year is to burn it. I remember when I was a kid getting poison ivy so bad I was out of school for a week at a time.... and that included 2 trips to the doctor with painfull shots We used to burn brush at my uncles house in the middle of the winter, never failed I'd be covered the very next day.
I haven't had poison ivy in over 10 years now

actually you can get it anytime of the year. Even when it has lost all of the leaves and looks like this.

You're lucky! People have died from inhaling the smoke from burning poison ivy.

    Poison ivy sucks big time!

No I wasn't burning it. I was cleaning a stone wall. I took all of the precautions that I could. Long sleveeves, long pants, gloves, boots, plus Ivy block before and showering and clothes washing immediatly after. I was careful, so I thought, but I am so sensitive that it just went hog wild. I am on Sterroids which are making the rash go away but also making me sick! I usually get it from my dog or the horses that I work with.

Although, I'd rather be outside and have poison ivy than still have snow!

PS. I wish I was in the woods! That wold have been more fun. I guess I didn't get it all off my hands and it is everywhere, literally!

    This works for me

Get exposed or believe you have been exposed.

Within 2 hours but asap shower with

DAWN dish washing soap lather well. let lather sit on you for a literal minute or 2 and rinse. One more time

The irritant in poison ivy is an organic oil and Dawn is an excellent oil detergent. If you have sensitive skin then you better have some lubriderm or the like handy as the dawn will strip all oils from your skin.

Also soak your gloves, clothes and tools in it or discard them. Rinse and launder twice in hot water . The 1st cycle by themselves. The Poison Ivy Oil is active on a surface almost indefinitely

My cure-all for poison ivy when I used to get it on my hands, arms and legs was take a cotton ball or cloth, soak it with gasoline and scrub the blisters till they broke open with the gassy cloth. The next day they'd just all be tiny scabs, but no more itch and no more puss.

And yeah, its kind of painful, but whatever.

The down side of warm weather

I usually get poison ivy every summer while landscaping, but i also take care of the pools at the same place, and liquid chlorine dries it up pretty quick. not the most fun, but it usually does the trick.
