as many know, I tested positive for lyme disease a few weeks ago and have been taking antibiotics for about 6 weeks already.
I had a follow up visit with my doctor last week,
good news, It doesn't look like I will need IV antibiotic therapy
but, I will be taking antibiotics for at least 6 months, possibly up to a year
I have been responding good to the antibiotics so far, hopefully no permenant effects from the lyme, I have probably had it for several years and it has been mis-diagnosed
everybody please be careful, New England is very high risk for contractring the disease, even though we are in winter months, the risk is less, but it is still a risk, the adult deer tick that carries it is the size of a pinhead, and deer tick nymphs are the size of lice and can infect you just as easy

flu like symptoms and a target rash? get tested...... I think I drew blood from about 40 people for lyme disease testing during my internship over the summer
unfortunately, standard CDC tests for lyme only test positive when you first get it, if you've had it for a while, only a more advanced testing will find itOriginally posted by neuthunder

Glad you're gonna be ok man.

I had Lyme in 2002 and I can say, it sure wasn't fun. You're lucky you're getting the treatment now and not in the middle of the summer like me, sunburns in LESS than 5 minutes sucked!!!
I thought mentioned lyme to you when we were down at Deals Gap and you could hardly walk? I had no idea I had it until one day my knee swelled up like a ballon and I could hardly walk.
Good luck

my back problems last spring were from siatica, a failing disk problem your spine pinches the siatic nerve, that was easily taken care of with a couple months of exersize routine,

Dude, I had no idea. I hope all is going well now that they've figured it out. Does this have anything to do with the 'episodes'?
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Get well man! Best of luck with the treatment.

Another crack pot theory
A Gun club friend has had recurring Lyme episodes for
a few years.
He always hunts kills and EATS local deer.
I would say to keep a respectable distance from deer.
Make sure the dogs have anti tick stuff on
We have blonde carpets so they are easier to spot
Surprisingly a good warm evening scrub shower or bath is usually enough to remove the ticks and prevent infection. I think it takes them a while to dig in.
Ticks are active up until the 2nd good hard freeze.
On the other hand i almost believe that we have a large amount of slow bacteria we are battling everyday. A periodic flush of antibacterial antibiotics may actually be beneficial to the entire system.

you can't get Lyme from eating deer.
Over use of anti biotics helps create "super-bugs" that do not respond to antibiotics. Periodic "flushing" for no real reason would not be a good thing.
Good luck with treatments RandyO!
Yea I cant stress how bad an "antibacterial flush" would be. Normal bacteria are becoming resistant enough just from using antibacterial hand soap, nevermind using antibiotics.
I did not say as a hobby to "flush"
Just a regular course for real reasons may have hidden benefits. Some brain degeneration was traced to very slow growing bacteria. Yeh yeh brain barrier but they do. Some other organs can harbor slow growing bacteria.
I am sure if you cook deer meat to well you are safe....
But if not cooked well
You are handling deer meat raw
you are skinning, gutting carcasses
butchering
much gross contact with
"precious bodily fluids"

I eat deer all the time. As a matter of fact I have had it Sunday Monday and Tuesday and I am having some tonight. I never cook it past medium and that is on accident. I eat my steak rare to raw.
You cannot get lyme disease from eating deer you get it from the ticks that are carrying it. They are not even the common wood tick it's the deer tick which are about the size of the head of a pin.
You suck at life. Why don't you quit?
My dad told me I could be anything I wanted when I grew up. So I became an Asshole.
go here...
http://www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/factsheets/fslyme.pdf
and read... " The only known way to get lyme disease is from the bite of an infected deer tick."
So as long as a tick doesn't jump off the deer and onto you while your handling it, your good, and like I said you will not get lyme from eating deer meat.
While reading this post, my hand accidentally brushed Randyo's avatar. Do I have the lyme disease now?
I've had one person tell me that because the lyme bacteria is a spirocite (sp? ) similar to the syphilus bacteria, it can be sexually transmittedOriginally posted by tonyd

when we talked about the doxycicline, he warned about staying out of the sun, especially since the diuretic I am taking for bp warns of sunlight exposure too
my lyme specialist thinks I've had it for several years, I can trace symptoms back 6 years, it probably would have been worse, but I have taken some powerful antibiotics for other infections, that have kept it at bayOriginally posted by chr|s sedition
