dude, that sucks, sorry to hear it. I'm still on the job hunt myself, and its been months and months....if anything, I've noticed a perk in job listings these past few weeks, so don't get too hard on yourself.

Sux, dont feel bad. I got laid off after 25 yrs at the same place back in january and have yet to find a job.
They gave me 1 measly week severance pay! fuckers!
It took me 6 weeks to collect fro unenjoyment! and I have never collected a dime in my life! Good luck Bro

I do retail construction. I frame ,drywall, tape,paint,finish work,run jobs, hire and fire people.

Hopefully things turn around soon. It's not like they won't call me back when things pick up. I've been here almost from the beginning. I have known them from when they started the company and I was a sub back then.

I did get 4 months of severance, and now I get to deal with NH's unemployment. What a joke they are. They pro-rated my severance and decided I didn't need any money for about 8 weeks, even though I didn't file for unemployment until after I received my last severance payment.

Dude, I'm sorry to hear about the job loss. I'm also in construction. I'll keep my eye out and an ear to the ground about any one hiring. The residential construction industry is starting to pick up. We haven't had a single new build in over a year. Now we have 4 lined up for fall. lets hope that is an indication to the rebound of the market. Good luck and keep your head up!!

Yeah, the market should be bottoming over the next month or so and the economy will quickly follow. The gov has pumped so much stimulous into the economy but there's a lag effect. However, once it hits the economy will rocket higher. I wouldn't be surprised to see GDP numbers of 5% and higher next year because they really over stimulated (which in my mind will just create another bubble in the next few years). Hang in there..

And I think Obama and his team have done a good job with what they had to deal with....even though I voted for McCain

You're correct! In my defense, that was before Lehman and Bear Sterns blowing up....and If I could have predicted how severe this unprecedented downturn would have been I would have beat 99.9% of the Mutual Fund managers and Market pundits...

Doesn't matter what predictions you make, it matters if you were able to make money during all the turmoil> i think I remember you saying you were into options? The past year and half's market voltility was an option players best friend. Were you able to capitalize on it at all? I wish I had got into options more, sadly I'm just addicted to regular stocks..

Depends. I was at my company for eight years and let go in jan, two months severance, that was a joke.

But in MA if they layoff 50 or more in a general layoff and have you sign a release, then you get to collect rigth away, minus the first week. So I got three weeks before I started working at a discount.

Keep your head up, it seems you have multiple options and sooner or later people we will need to repair/build weather they like it or not.

Nah, I got out of that. Did well for a while, got burned pretty bad, now I'm just paying down my condo and keeping the rest in savings in case I end up laid off again.
