well...wonderful xmas gift that doesn't seem to be working. Initially it seemed to work but and even had the iPhone App working. Now it just keeps shutting off. 2 second of video...off. Try to get to settings...2 clicks of the mode button...off.
I'm hoping its the 16gb San Card best buy included in the purchase...GoPro doesnt seem to support that card.....

Hmmm. Mine didn't come with a card.
They are card sensitive. I ended up with a 32G SanDisk card, but it's and extreme plus card. I've only tried 1080superwide so far. Mine supposedly supports 80MB/s read and 50MB/s write.
You do know there's a firmware update available, right?
Yeah, thanks Jason...it was a promotion that Best Buy had going not from GoPro. I think I have the current version but I have tried to run the upgrade on their web site but apparently the site is down. Have a 64gig Lexar 600 card ordered. And a note to their support dept. I'm not in a rush ...just annoyed!

gopro has an awesome support group. if there's anything that's wrong with it they always take care of it. if it's a legit problem, will best buy bring it back and replace it? i know we always do.
Yeah....I see what their support group has to say. And I have a 64gig Lexar card on order FROM GoPro...!

Try playing around w/ it WITHOUT a card in it?

open up the battery compartment and take out the batter. Check to see if the sticker is making contact with the battery leads. If it is then just remove it. That was the problem with mine. It was shorting out the camera and causing it to think it was over heating and it would shut itself down after about 5 seconds to avoid damage.

Yeah. Saw that posted somewhere and checked. Not the problem. Pete-tried without the card too. That didn't make any difference…

Tried yesterday and site wasn't working. Also, I did check the rev and it seems to be current ...

OK...talked with GoPro support this afternoon. He was great. Turns out their Support/Software Update page doesn't like Internet Exlorer. Had to fire up Chrome. Then was able to run the update successfully. Unfortunately, it made no difference! The Support guy suggested I return the unit to Best Buy OR he could RMA a new one from them for me. I went to Best Buy and did a painless exchange! Got the replacement home, opened it up (a trip in itself!) and checked the rev. It was an older rev so I ran the update as I had previously and it went fine. This one is working perfectly! Awesome to control it from my iPhone or iPad.
So...any experts out here can recommend the best settings for using this on my motorcycles? I will mount either on my helmet (thanks Tom...still have one!) or, with the suction cup accessory somewhere on the bike...or car...or...?
What resolution and FPS and width gives the best results?
This think is pretty cool!

I got the same unit from the kids as a gift Dave. Haven't opened it yet but plan to over the weekend. I will keep an eye on this thread too. A few of the guys on our group rides are pretty competent with the GP so I'll be learning from them also.
It depends on where you will play your video.
Youtube 1080p 30 frames per sec is the most they support.
Computer / Blue Ray 1080 p 60 frames is usually more than enough.
Some people favor 720p 120 frames for higher motion vid such as on a MC,but accept lower pixel density.
If you want wide go with the 1080p Superview at 30 frames, or 720p Superview at 100 frames.
I find that with the Superview, where you think the camera is angled at never really helps... unless you use the app to view and set your camera angle. Helmets and bike frames get in the field of view more and I end up angling the camera out more and up more.
If you want non wide angle and good pixel video that you will edit down later, go with 1440 48 frames. This is more than most current TV's and Computers can handle though.
Also I avoid Supertune, it seems to dumb down the pixel quality and uses more battery.
If you are not using Wifi, shut it off on the camera until you need to use it, it eats battery life as well.
If you record video and it seems to not play well on your windows computer, try updating your codecs, or install 64 bit version of VLC player if you have a 64 bit operating system on Windows. It seems every computer is different. I can play a video on one computer in my office that is very recent and high quality. Windows Media player won't play the video smoothly, but VLC player will.

With my Hero2 I find wide-angle basically useless for filming other riders unless I'm right on his tail. Using the time-lapse to record a long ride is interesting, but a pain to compile.
As far as mounts go, I like my helmet chinbar and my handlebar mount. I think the handlebar mount is nicer on my naked SV650 because a bit of the gauges is in the picture, giving the viewer a point of reference. Video from the chinbar doesn't really convey the lean angles.

First you screw, then you bolt.
Hijacking your thread Dave...
Does anyone have any recommendations on a "gear bag" for these things with all of their random bits?
I'm not great at keeping up with lots of tiny bits when they aren't all in one place, so was thinking about something like http://www.amazon.com/Xit-XTHC20-Pho...words=Foam+bag.
I was thinking the same thing, but was going to go with something like this that's waterproof. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Waterpro...item27dc82350c

I love pelicans.. and the various knock offs.
I bought this at Best Buy. Absolutely perfect. Holds everything in a compact and easy to access space.

The Chesty mount comes with a nylon baggy. Everything that I don't use all the time fits in it. What can I say? I'm cheap and lazy.
