I'd agree to some extent...it's good to have a thing or two that you don't always do together...but when two people have NOTHING in common as far as hobbies (or anything else for that matter)...it's hard to live with after a while...ask me how I know.

But if your hobby is more like a way of life, then you probably shouldn't date anyone who doesn't share it. More than likely, they won't understand often enough that you'll have ongoing issues.

(and no, I don't know how many people here would fall into that category for biking; I know I do for skiing, and it would take a lot for me to consider dating someone who didn't either ski or snowboard, and in that case, she'd have to be willing to learn...I tried dating a non-skier once. It didn't end so well.)
