Don't buy a knock-off iPhone 5 cable.
As the article states near the end, the cables could be rendered useless with the next ios update.

Ps the adapters don't fit with a case on your phone (to use the old cables).

I heard the adapters are scuffed.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I wouldn't know. I returned that bitch and demanded a new one.

Just spend the extra $10.00 and be content that it will always work.

It depends on how serious Apple is about keeping the cloners out. If that chip is a decent enough clone of the apple unit, all Apple will be able to do is block all their existing cables and come up with a new lockout, all while claiming the 1st generation cables kill babies or something so the Apple Faithful will feel privileged to buy yet more cables. Or, they admit defeat and let the cloners make cables.
See - Nintendo lock out chip on the original NES, once the genie was out of the bag, Nintendo couldn't do anything about it without cutting off their own feet. See also, PS3 and the recent key leak... no way to stop current stuff from working, new keys and new firmware will only work to prevent new stuff from getting copied.
