Camcorder advice

I am thinking about picking up a camcorder. I was thinking of getting one with a built in HD and burning my own DVD. Should I just look into a DVD/MinDVD one instead?

I have had good luck with Sony products, but I am open to any manufacturer. It probably won't be used that often and I was looking to spend around $300 or less (if possible).

Any ideas on what I should get? What should I look out for?

go with a hard drive unit or miniDV. Stay far away from dvd units as they tend to skip when recording (if its mounted to the bike anways).

Sony, Canon, panasonic seem to be good. But i *always* check out reviews on stuff on Tech product reviews for cell phones, computers, MP3 players - CNET before i buy most of my electronic stuff.
