I'm not in a flood zone, but wow are things fucked if you have to travel. Many major roads are either closed or have detors that lead to more detors.
On the way home from work yesterday on I-95, the river was just starting to flow over a levi to protect the water sewage plant...that was before it rose, another 5' and closed I-95

Amazingly I weathered the floods without a problem. I am less than 2 miles from the flood zones in Cranston, and all I had to deal with was about a 1/16th of an inch deep puddle in the corner of the basement. The town was in chaos yesterday with traffic backed up for miles on the streets by my house. My family in Boston faired worse than I did. My poor brother had a sewage backup flood his basement, a week after cleaning out the last flood.

question from a noob who has never owned a house with a basement:

how does the water get in? is it through the windows of the basement that are still above ground level?

if you were to seal your doors an windows to the basement, then it wouldn't be able to get in right?

Wow, things got pretty hairy in some places. I was out for a ride today and alot of places have wet roads and you can see hoses coming out of peoples bulkheads (that sounds dirty.)

We're alright. Thankfully that picture was about the worst, even though there were predictions it was going to get worse throughout the night. We were shut down on Tuesday and Wednesday morning with no power to the building so we're getting caught up now.

Keep in mind...in that picture the roll-up door into the tall building on the far right is elevated up on a concrete loading dock from the parking lot!!

I'm not in RI but it took me 3 hours to get to work and 2.5 to get home yesterday due to roads being closed, bridges washed out etc. Normally my commute is about 45 min each way....fml

ive got a friend that has his mercedes SL500 glass top at a custom shop in RI... after putting nearly $12k into the car in mods>> the shop is under 8ft of water... for the SECOND TIME.. they totalled the car after the first rains last week and were supposed to pick up the car for salvege yesterday and its under water AGAIN now the ins co is giving him a hard time about reimbursement...
