I know there have been threads about beds before but I'd like a refresh. In the market for a new bed. I've had 60 years worth of complex beds with boxsprings and mattresses with coil springs etc. I really don't understand why all that is necessary. Guessing that a version of the Sleep Number or Temperpedic Foam...or maybe a combination...is the best approach but I'd like to hear your RELEVANT experience if you have any!!!
I'm especially interested in beds that use the approachs above but different brands. (My impression is there's a real premium for the 'name'. Seriously...foam is foam and air is air. Right?
Thanks in advance...!
(Hoping this doesn't have to get moved to 'controversial') !!!

I have a "King Koil" brand foam bed, no springs. difference I found with all the foam beds I checked out is the King Koil has a band around the perimeter that helps keep you from falling off at the edge
most foam beds if you fall asleep right at the edge, you will end up rolling off and falling on the floor as the edge of the bed settles, the band that the King Koil has keep the edge from settling

I will wholeheartedly recommend a sleep number. We have had our now for 4 years and it has never let me down. Some nights I need a firmer mattress (this was especially true during my P90X schedule last winter), and some nights softer. rob and I have different sleep needs. It seems to be the best of all worlds. This summer we bought a foam topper to go over it and now it's like sleeping on clouds.....so awesome! the few times I have slept on a foam mattress, I have also gotten decent sleep, but the problem I found is once you are in one spot, you have to stay there, and they don't adjust to if you are reading or watching a movie in bed (when you might be more upright and want things a bit firmer), versus sleeping and whatnot.

If you're willing to take a little drive (should be easy given your new "work" schedule), give a call and/or stop in to Landry's Furniture Barn. Ask for Kyle, and tell him you ride with Bill Coolahan. He's one of my best friends from college, and his family has owned the Barn for decades - they know their stuff.

Tempurpedic SUCK. I've sent mine back twice. They develop a valley where you sleep and you end up literally falling into bed. Messes with my back too. It's at the point of no return for the third time and I wont get another.
PowerBob with 8" Bob-O-Pedic King for $1500: I couldn't be happier! Not too soft, supports more of my body to spread out the weight and I can elevate my legs, or my torso if I get some heartburn at night. Do they make you warmer? No more than adding or removing a layer of blanket. Laid down on a Tempurpedic: Too soft, and the price hurt my back just thinkin about it.
iComfort from Serta is the new thing. its got some gel mixed in with the memory foam that helps keep it cool (memory foam beds notoriously keep heat in) and they also come in the fancy adjustable style with massage. not super expensive either.
ive been outta the mattress game for a couple of years though.....

I've got a bad back from soft tissue trauma and my girlfriend had an L5-S1 fusion last December.
I had a Serta posturepedic memory foam mattress before surgery and ended up selling it for a king koil natural elegance latex foam. We found the latex foam much better for both of us. Gives better support than the memory foam and much more resilient.
I was super happy with my bed from bedinabox.com and they delivered it to my door. I went with the thickest queen they offered with the bamboo cover. I got the box spring as well. Box spring was a little weak, but there really isnt much to a box spring anyway. Bed was always super comfy. Actually, I got 2 memory foam pillows too.
I have 2 Spa Sensations 12" memory foam bed. I like them. You can buy them through Wal-Mart(yea I know). But if you don't like it, you can always return it! Wal-Mart is great with returns.

There is a little place in New Bedford, ma. Worley bed's They makes their own beds there. They do standards or foam, w/ or w/o box springs. I'm super happy with my purchase I bought a standard mattress and boxspringlessbed about a year ago. They have a 20 year warrantee. And, it's nice to support a local company.
just dropped the loot on a temperpedic from sleepy's, LOVE it so far, very comfortable, and with a 25 year warranty on it you can't go wrong. Just a lot of money for a bed
got the cloud, it's great, definitely still breaking in a little bit, they said it would take about 2 weeks, have had it almost a week and a half. very comfy, definitely sleeping better, waking up with more energy

best bet is to go lay on some... there's definitely difference between models
If that was serious, definitely not all the same. Some cheaper foam mattresses have just a layer of foam on top - can be as little as just a few inches of it. We have 2 foam mattresses in our spare bedrooms. Our mattress is a standard type; when we replace it it'll be memory foam also. My wife had a Novoform brand; I'm not a huge fan of it. We also have a cheaper one that I actually like better (although I don't think it has great reviews).

I have a tempurpedic we bought 6 years ago and we both love it.
I cheaped out and bough Jordan's brand for my other house and it is not nearly as good.
It's a major personal choice and take a few weeks to know so buy froma. Place that has an exchange policy like Jordan's......I just shoulda used it!!

I got my mattress and box spring from BJ's, I think it ran around $500. With a nice memory foam mattress topper this thing is the tits. I'm a super light sleeper and this has definitely improved the quality of my sleep. Girls tell me its the most comfortable bed they've been in, which may also be why they won't gtfo in the morning.

We have had them all. When I had my apartment and was a bachelor I had a hand-me-down spring type mattress and slept great. Then the missus entered the picture. She has a more sensitive back than I.
First she bought a Sleep Number shortly after we started dating. Her mother had one and she loved it. For whatever reason, ours didn't quite measure up. I think part of it was the pillow top style she bought. I did not think much of the sleep number. The bed is supposedly warranted forever or for a long time, something like that. But the electronics and the pump aren't. The pump failed on hers/ours and had to be replaced for the sum of $150 or something. ... That bed is now folded up in the closet.
In its place is a WICKED expensive Jordans' brand whatever-o-pedic. Shortly after we took delivery I let the dog on it or dropped something on it (can't remember now) and nicked the foam. Supposedly this voided the warranty! This bed is okay. But it sags. We have to rotate it (a real PITA) periodically.
Honestly, I'd get a quality inner spring mattress and be done. Most of this stuff is hype, IMO.

Me and my wife have owned a Tempurpedic for a few years now, and we absolutely love it. It takes about 2 weeks to get used to...well it took her about 2 weeks, I've been sleeping on a foam mattress for years so I was already used to it. We have not had any of the sagging that was mentioned in this thread. In fact these beds are built specifically to avoid sagging, so if that were to happen I think it would probably be considered a factory defect and could probably be replaced under warranty. And we actually bought it to replace a sagging spring bed. We love the bed so much that her parents actually bought one on recommendation by us, and they have told us they'll never go back to a spring mattress.
Only downside to the Tempurpedic brand name is that they are VERY expensive and the factory pretty much controls the cost on these beds, so its hard to find a good deal. One other minor issue is that these beds get rock hard when they get cold, so if you sleep in a cold room, your first 30 minutes in bed are going to be very cold and very hard. Once they warm up they flex normally though.

Its a little different than peoples opinion here, but i have a Bob-o-pedic, in my opinion it is amazing ive had it for 2 years now and i cannot even get a full night sleep on anything else. My father who has a bad back (bulging disc etc) also loves them and he has a sleep number. When i moved out i left my bed at home for about 6 months, when i went back to pick it up i found that he had stopped using his sleep number and was actually sleeping on my bob-o-pedic for comfort and the ability to sleep.
I really think in today's world it all comes down to personal preferance. however if i could get some marchesini's for the bob-o-pedic it would DEF be worth more
Orthopedic mattresses from bobs furniture rock! You can get whatever you want even half n half beds. Worth very single $.
Great quality and comfortable.
