    Cisco Help

    I know a few people on here work with Cisco equipment. My knowledge of cisco equipment is extremely limited, and we are given a script to execute.

    From our scripting software, I get the following
    ++ 0000: Enter
    --
    --
    Processor ID: 0x8032 Revision: 0x0300
    --

    -- MWR2941-DC platform with 524288 Kbytes of main memory
    --

    --
    Readonly ROMMON initialized
    --
    Checksum failed on mwr2941-atafslib-m
    --
    Expected checksum: 6c1b, calculated checksum: eb08
    --
    open: bad flash file magic number (0
    ++ ##################################################################

    ++ ##################################################################

    ++ 0200: enable

    --

    -- MWR2941-DC platform with 524288 Kbytes of main memory
    --

    --
    Readonly ROMMON initialized

    When I login to the router through a terminal, i get the following on bootup

    System Bootstrap, Version 12.4(20100105:220700) [walrobin-cowgirl2-rommon 101], DEVELOPMENT SOFTWARE

    Readonly ROMMON initialized
    Checksum failed on mwr2941-atafslib-m
    Expected checksum: 6c1b, calculated checksum: 9f98
    open: bad flash file magic number (0x0000)
    file size: 0x0, flags: 0x0
    possible end of file system reached
    open(): Open Error = -1
    loadprog: error - on file open
    cannot load the monitor library "flash:%mwr2941-atafslib-m" for device: flash:
    boot: cannot open "flash:"
    boot: cannot determine first file name on device "flash:"
    I can't do any type of commands. every command i type i get a command not found response. I can only think that either the flash card is crap, or the unit itself is. any ideas?

    Re: Cisco Help

    Looks like bad flash to me. Pull the CF, format it as a FAT volume, download a fresh IOS image from Cisco and plop it on there. You may have to manually specify the boot image but usually rommon falls back to the first file on the flash if it doesn't see what it's configured to boot.

    I have seen 2800 series routers EAT CF cards, had to RMA one for that problem. Flash would survive one boot and then be irreparably damaged from that point forward. Never did figure out the exact mechanism at fault.

    we tried formatting the flash already. going to try a new flash card this week. also going to bring a new router out when it gets done.

    Re: Cisco Help

    it was a bad flash card. so instead of getting me a new flash card, they want to rma the entire unit.

    if it was the internal storage, you may not be able to just swap the card. Depending on your smartnet, you may have it tomorrow. I know several times they overnight'd hardware that was on standard support and once even did a 4hr parts on site when I didn't ask for it.
