Anybody else have impressive old friends?

This is the kid I got into riding with, we used to be super good friends back 10 years ago until 2010 or so. He had a pretty nice apartment, was working on a BS in mechanical engineering, a clean record and was a pretty smart kid. Then he got into pills, thats about when we stopped hanging out and he just went way down hill from there. I still see him walking around town occasionally, last time I saw him both his arms were broken. Ridiculous.

    Found this article today:
    McCormack in Trouble Again
    http://concord-nh.patch.com/articles...-trouble-again

Which got me curious and then I found this one:
Arrested Eight Times in Two Months
    http://concord-nh.patch.com/articles...-in-two-months

Which linked to this arrest log (he's on top):
    http://concord-nh.patch.com/articles...s-theft-charge

And mentions him again in this log (he's about half way down):
    http://concord-nh.patch.com/articles...log-dec-9-2011

It's sad to see... and I wish I could help him straighten out but I wouldn't trust him in the least. Honestly I doubt there is anything I could even do, nor feel at all qualified to help someone in his situation.

I'm actually impressed at this point. That's "World's Dumbest Criminals" worthy.

EDIT: I took out a sentence because technically it wasn't public information, I'll keep this to info that's already publicly available.

Nothing you can do until they're ready. I learned that the hard way when I watched one of my friends disintegrate in front of me. It's a pretty helpless feeling knowing one day you might come home and very well might find them dead.

It does suck. Honestly I'd have more sympathy for him if he hadn't spent a year trying to bum money off me, or getting money out of other mutual friends. That's ultimately what made us part ways completely. I knew he was in rough shape, had no idea this kinda crap was going on until today.

Luckily my buddy never stole from me. I knew he had issues when I gave him a place to stay. I just didn't understand exactly how bad they were though. It was coming home and finding him barely breathing ( like a resp rate of 2) and the constant lying that wore me down. Part of the reason why I don't put up with any b.s. from anyone now. Lost my tolerance for it.

Luckily he eventually saw the light (with a little help from a small cell for several months) and leads a normal life now.

Some of them do make it out alive.

Re: Anybody else have impressive old friends?

McCormack, from Ryan's post looks a lot like the guy I saw scoping cars in the wally world parking lot a few weeks ago. I nearly put my window down and asked if he saw anything he liked and if he wanted me to leave the doors unlocked for him. I'm a wise ass like that. The guy I saw had a hooded sweat shirt, with hood on his head, and a flannel over it, while I'm in t-shirt and shorts. I guess he had poor circulation.

I watched my now ex sister in-law screw up a family, screw her young kids up, blow money on drugs and shit instead of paying bills, and still to this day continues to be a lazy piece of shit. She'd accuse my brother of cheating every time he left her sight, even when we were out in the woods hunting, or when we took her own kids fishing. Yet the insecure bitch was the one screwing anything that moved, and she went the meth and pills route. She's with some degenerate loser child abusing douche now, had kid #4 with him, decided they needed more welfare and she's knocked up with #5 now. No money of course, what little they have gets blown on chemicals I imagine. My parents end up paying their bills, though they shouldn't. I understand why they do it, but if they didn't, they may force a custody shift from the pieces of shit my brothers kids live with now, to my parents / brother. My mother is far more mother to those kids than their own mother probably ever be. I'm all up for getting them out of that house and away from that extremely poor role model. Her parents are fucking idiots as well. It's sad because my oldest niece acts just like her mother. Back in the high school days we told my brother she's an idiot, you can do better. He listened about as good as a brick wall...sucks you have to let people learn the hard way. Needless to say, he now sees the light. Unfortunately it's eight years after he should have seen the light.

He needs to learn how to disguise himself. If you're going to be a thief, at least be good at it. Sounds like he was usually caught by visible identification like walking down the street and security camera footage.

Re: Anybody else have impressive old friends?

I've got old friends in prison for things ranging from small-time drug related stuff to big-time drg related stuff to bank robbery to armed robbery to domestic abuse to assualts of various degrees to theft...you name it. I have an equal amount of old friends that've been buried and old friends that've been bouncing around from rehab to rehab over the last 20 years or so. It's a small miracle I made it out relatively unscathed and 'on the right path'. I look at those dudes and am reminded of how close I truly was...

People smart enough to get away with crime are usually smart enough to get a legal job and avoid being criminals in the first place.

Re: Anybody else have impressive old friends?

Had a friend like that back in high school. We both started to go down the wrong path but I cleaned up mostly and attended college. When I went to school I cut off all contact with him even though mutual friends argued that I was a piece of shit for doing so. He kept trying to contact me over the years and finally I gave in about 4 years ago. When I did agree to spend time with him he asked for a ride somewhere to meet a friend. Little did I know he was meeting up with a scumbag to score oxy's. When I finally found out what the purpose of the trip was I flipped the fuck out and kicked his ass out of my car along rt 9. I swore I would never talk to him again.

Fast forward 2 years, he gets out of jail for lord knows what and ends up getting his head bashed in by a baseball bat. Police never found the murderer and didn't even know why he was murdered, but there was speculation.

Still to this day I do not regret not talking to him nor do I miss his adult self.

Amazes me how fast someone who has the world in their hands and simply pisses it away........

Here he is in all his glory here

    Article of homicide here

I feel for ya, I've watched my cousin (whom I was close to) numb his brain away because of pills. Nothing seems to spike his interest now except pain killers and booze. Sucks because he was a very talented and motivated welder and fabricator. I've put him in rehab many times, and had an intervention. He chooses to take the "you guys don't understand, my body is addicted to it, I just cant stop." In other words he doesn't want to fully commit to sobriety.

I think a lot more of us have friends like this that we don't want to admit to. And pills seem to be the common factor here, or at least that is how it starts.

David king was a good friend of mine growing up. He turned into one of the biggest drug dealers in the UK and was the first person ever to be assasinated with an AK47 in the UK.
I lived in a fairly middle class town and he drive around town in a Ferrari with "king E" as te licence plate. Owned two multimillion dollar homes and had no job.

Re: Anybody else have impressive old friends?

Some crazy stories in here. It amazes me how fast someone can go from being on their feet and headed towards a solid life to... well... this kinda crap. I think that's what bothers me most. I'm no saint myself but there's a difference between being young and dumb and letting your life fall apart.

As for the crap my old buddy is up to, I can't help but kinda laugh at how blatantly stupid most of it is. To be arrested 8 times in two months blows my mind.

Right? High school buddy got arrested 4 times within one week and all for weed. To show how much of class act he was he integrated a hooka into his blazer. Bowl was in the center console and 4 tubes were dispatched to all passengers. Genius if he had learned to market it.

You're certainly right, but I feel like his crime is driven by his addiction, rather than a total lack of social respect. Obviously he doesn't care anymore, but it's not like he's stealing to buy a new Benz.

More of an acquaintance than a friend, but we were involved in a lot of the same stuff in High School. Absolutely shocked when I found out it was him that set the fires. I have a bunch of much better friends at the Shipyard & I think if they hadn't jailed him one of them would've killed him
