Try and get some Zyban and some patches/gum. Best method I have seen to quit yet.

smoked for 17 yrs. It took me a full year to get the confidence to go through it. I live in ny. and they offer a state quit program with patches, thats only part of it. the second part is a program is, little tricks too help fight the erge. and they also offer phone moral support. Little tricks that helped me ..DO NOT TOUCH A PACK OF SMOKES..even pick up a pack for a friend. when you get the erge, put your lips together and suck in a deep breath.. it's been almost two an a half yrs for me.. good luck don't give up. all the money you save you can buy a new bike next year..!!

Good luck man. Done it a thousand times myself. I've tried 'em all, but I'm back at it. The best method was Chantix, but a month after I stopped taking it I started smoking again. I'm setting another 'target date'...

I sincerely wish you the best of luck. I've dropped narcotics that were easier to quit than smoking...

the key is break the associations.
drinking and smoking.. so don't drink.
    coffe and smoking.. avoid coffee..
smoking after sex.. you get the idea.

your mind maps things together, so if you break the associations you'll be better off, but for now you may just be best avoiding the things that go with smoking in your head.

also, smoking makes you take deep breaths(drags) so one thing you can do if take deep breaths when quitting and stressed. the additional oxygen and cleansing effect of deep breathing can help minimize the effect of the stresses that can drive you past the limits of your will.

    That is very good advice

...problem for me is is smoke after sex, after a spirited ride and after every meal

...i'm not doing away with any one of those things

The friend I'm talking about still smoke a few times a day while on the patch...he started about a week ago. He hasen't felt right most of the week, has asthma and took meds for that during a few days...all that combined together. Apparently the doc/phamracist said it was OK to have just a few cigs a day while on the patch...

Put on the patch, chew some nic gum, pack a lip and smoke a butt at the same time. That should give him some nicotine poisoning

    Re: Quitting Smoking, Today!

As long as you got the right mind set, "this time' you'll do it. I smoked for 15 years and quit a couple years ago. The only way I could do it was, I was finally sick and tired of it. I used the patch to ease the pain. The huge thing here is your mind set and your will. For example, I once tried to quit on the patch and ended up smoking a pack same night on the patch. It didn't help that I was at a bar(this was when you can still smoke in bars)and it was St. Patty's day. I didn't have the mental strength to quit that day. Good luck!
