That video was great! Like how after the owner throws the racoon the dog runs up to the next landing, contemplates helping his master, says fuck it every dog for themselves and seems to make break for safety.

So dog picks fight with racoon, racoon defends itself, racoon gets tossed?

Dog? Looked like the same size as the coon to me. My cat is bigger.

Then again, my cat is bigger than our new dog, so I digress.

Re: Raccoon learns a valuable lesson

maybe the raccoon attacked the dog?---my dog was attacked by a coyote a couple weeks ago right in my own backyard--or the dog was doing what comes naturally...defending its turf and owner...either way, they can be fucking rabid, and who wants to take the chance at losing a toaster to a rabid critter?

Re: Raccoon learns a valuable lesson

I've always had a good, if not lethargic, relationship with my local ROP (racoon on patrol).

I hear him trying to knock over the trash, I shine a flashlight on him and tell him to leave. He slowly sulks away like I ruined his fun.

His is one of a trio that comes by every week. Him, a skunk and a cat. The cat is the most easily startled even though it is a neighbors barn cat. The other two couldn't be less enthused to flee.

Re: Raccoon learns a valuable lesson

Ya know, racoons totally monogamous and mate with 1 mate for life. Im surprised that you only see 1 coon on patrol. Ive got a family of at least 5 that knocks over my trash and makes a fuckin mess.

Last week I hear them banging around out there, open my back door (where trash cans are) and find 4 of them INSIDE the barrel. WTF, Im not getting bit by those fuckers, so my wife sprays Windex at them through the screen door till they leave. At first I think they liked the scent of it, then I would imagine it started to burn their eyes or noses, cause they wanted nothing to do with it after a minute. We've used mint scented trash bags, we bought coyote pee and used that...motion lights, fort knocks style barrels... Nothing has worked 100%. Im thinking they need some poison...but I cant bring myself to do it.

I moved my trash barrel into the garage. Problem solved.

I have no desire to harm them.

Pour some ammonia in your garbage can or in your garbage bags before you tie them. It will keep the small wildlife (not bears) at bay. The only problem is you have to occasionally add more if you store your trash for a while.

I have no desire to hurt them either, and I did put my garbage in the garage, but the garage is where the bike and semi-hangout is and trash wreaks...

Did the ammonia thing. No dice. Wife has googled this issue and we've tried a bunch of stuff. Bricks on top of barrell, etc...

Happened again last night... little fucks.

I'm almost crying at work watching that racoon tumble into oblivion. If a racoon attacked my dog I'd do the same thing, and those things are nasty fighters! They can kill a hunting dog, so my 50lb labradoodle wouldn't stand a chance.

    It's a coon, not a fisher cat.
