I was actually looking through Earthroamer's pre-owned inventory the other day. Do I buy a house or a used earthroamer... tough choice

Re: For All You Sprinter/Ambulance/Utilitarian Vehicle Hunters

Today at work we bought a long wheelbase medium roof Transit 250 with Ecoboost (310hp, 400 lb ft torque)
    Limited Slip Diff
    Interior upgrade package
    Extended heated adjustable side mirrors
    Trailer tow package with controller
    Navigation and Bluetooth
    Rear view camera
    Rear and side door glass
    Alloy wheels

There is a $1,500 incentive and a $1,500 upfit incentive

400 ft lbs of torque and 310hp. "The EPA has rated both the 3.5-liter EcoBoost and 3.7-liter V6 engines at 14 city, 19 highway, and 16 mpg combined. " Which is better than our Express.

They seem to sell right now for approximately invoice price less incentives. With delivery etc MSRP was over $40K

Missed the ecoboost mention the first time I read that. That's (diesel) sprinter money though. With your recent fascination with diesels.. why did you pass on the sprinters for so long, but find a $40k Ford van palatable in its first year?

Re: For All You Sprinter/Ambulance/Utilitarian Vehicle Hunters

Well I guess I'll join the party. Finalized a trade on my Silverado yesterday and picked up a '15 Transit Connect XLT lwb. This is going to be a do all for me; work, daily driver, track vehicle. It has solid doors, sync, and backup camera. I would have preferred to have glass in the sliding doors but it wasn't available without ordering and I can't wait the 8 month delivery time now.

I'm not sure what I'll do for an interior build out, whatever it is needs to be modular for me to get maximum utility. I'm definitely going to put a rack system on.

I put about 175 miles on it yesterday, combined highway and back roads and finished the trip at about 25 mpg. First impression is there is a lot to like, not an awful lot to be desired.

My plans track wise are to load everything in the back and hitch carry the grom. I don't know how well it tows yet, but I'm guessing its a dog.

A comparable diesel Sprinter was at least $4,000 more. We don't need diesel, Sprinters are made in Germany and not the US, many operators complain they have to be taken back to dealer for most service, and there's no factory GPS. Window glass is a dealer installed and relatively expensive option. The inventory available was quite limited.

The Transit is already outselling the Sprinter by 4x. I did look at them but fleet operators were not very enthusiastic.

We drive our vans 15-20,000 miles per year. If it was 30K plus we would have looked at the diesels and the Transit probably would cost about the same as the Sprinter.

The rest I get, so this is moot. But there are aftermarket options that look pretty damned good from the photos. CR Laurence being the cream of the crop, from what I've read. IIRC many RV up-fitters use them.

And re: service. Who do you plan on having the Transit serviced by, if not the dealer?
Or are you saying that Ford dealers are far, far more common. 'Cause that I read loud and clear. Similar issue with Nissan; only some of their dealers are authorized to work on the NV vans. My read is that there is only one duly authorized dealer in the state of NH.

meehhh...I need want something big enough to carry 2 bikes, which are in a separate compartment (so they won't stink up the sleeping) from the driving/sleeping compartment (that can sleep 2 people)...the truck is sweet because it offers the separation, but also sucks because the bikes are not secure/enclosed...

Re: For All You Sprinter/Ambulance/Utilitarian Vehicle Hunters

The first-ever public auction of 25 legit, real-deal, US military Humvees is done, and a frenzy of bidders have set the precedent for the price of "a decent looking HMMWV with 5,000 t0 30,000 miles."

That price is an average of $29,760 to be specific, for the first batch of AM General HVMWVW straight from Uncle Sam. Nothing had less than 50 bids on it, most went over a couple hundred.

The most expensive truck was a '94 M998A1 four-door soft top with 1,449 miles on it ($41,000), and the cheapest was an '89 M1038 two-door with a canvas pickup bed cover and 22,523 miles ($21,500).
