anyhow I want them to disprove the myth that road crown accounts for quicker wear on the left side of bike tires

and prove that because we drive on the right hand side of the road, left hand turns are longer than right hand turns, we simply spend more time leaning left

[i]I don't know how much riding you do but in my experience my tires wear much faster in the middle of the tread. I've never seen a tire wear quicker on either side.
But I do a lot of long distance cruising.[/B]

Neat idea but... Couldn't we just ask some folks in England, Australia, Japan etc. if their tires wear faster on the right side?

At NHIS the right side of my tire gets no wear...But at VIR only my right side got wear... I think this proves it has nothing to do with what side of the road we drive on!

they do wear on the opposite side


I am in an internet argument on another board, with someone who attributes the wear on the left due to crown and a "smaller contact patch on the left side?

It was a crappy joke.

I find it hard to believe that the crown of the road is going to make a big difference in your tread wear, unless the road is like the Datonya track with a giant angle. I know that my rear tire wasn't aligned correctly from the dealer when I bought it and it caused the left side of the tire to wear more.

That person musta flunked geometry. Lets see, lanes are typically 10-11 feet wide, every time you turn left you are going at least 10-11 feet*pi (31 to 35 feet) further than you would on the same corner while going the other way.

thing is this guy us usually has the correct answer

I'm not sure how the mythbuster thing works, I think the more activity or interest, the more likely they use the idea

I don't think they will do it cause they can't blow up or destroy anything to bust this myth.

Maybe a better myth for them would be "Do -X- rated tires really blow up if you exceed -X speed rating-", etc..

I think to accelerate tire wear they can do some smoke shows

The crown acts as banking in right handers so the tire is more upright then left handers

What about uneven chicken stipes

crown has minimal effect a couple mm offset at most
