I currently have Verizon Wireless and my contract term has ended, but I am still with them. Very soon my cell phone will be my only phone, and am contemplating switching providers. Who has what service and what are your thoughts on the service received, along with problems/issues/pricing/kudos you may have with said phone company? Thanks for the input.

I have "V" and love it ! US Cellular screwed over my previous account and wont go bacl to them..... of course up here that is my only 2 choices......
stick with V !
I've had Verizon for 6 years now and no contract for the last 3. Regards, Jake

I have cingular...Used to have Nextel...Nextel sucks for coverage..I have been happy with cingular/att..

i used to have ATT but was not happy with the service/coverage during the cingular merge so i switched to sprint and have been as happy as can be since, another thing to consider is what service does all the people you will be calling have, lots of times they will offer you same service unlimited minutes
i think you should look at what your friends (people you call the most) have and see if there is free conection between phones. Ex: V has "in" and you get to call anyone in the network for free, but if none of your friends have "in" then whats the point? (i hate Verizon for the record) i have Nextel because most of my friends and work have them so it makes it easy to direct connect them and not pay a dime for it. coverage wise most companies are the same. the good thing about Nextel is its not a long distance call for my parents when they call from the house.

Verizon, never had a issue with my Verizon, or there reps. At&T wasnt bad service wise, or price. Just dont make a change...
Sprint and Nextel merged so the Nextel service may get better. I have Sprint and noticed its improving. It works better at my house than my friend who has Verizon.

I've had Cingular (Cell One), T-Mobile and now use Verizon.
I couldn't stand Cingular and couldn't wait until the contract expired. They have since gotten much better with their coverage and if you do any international travel they are much better than Verizon.
T-Mobile was good and their prices/minutes package was slightly better that the other two but reception was sometimes spotty, lots of dropped calls where I live.
I now have Verizon and really like them. A little more money than the other two but coverage and customer service is above and beyond the competition. I think I'll stick with them for the time being.
I have had Sprint (before they merged with Nextel). The only issue I ever had was that I didnt get service at home. I am pretty rural so that pretty much happens with any provider. I had AT&T and things went way downhill when they merged with Cingular.
Now I have Nextel. I got a $275 phone (color flip screen, etc, etc.) for $25 with a new contract. I have coverage at home and although there are sometimes glitches in coverage here and there, overall its pretty good. And I would like to think that the coverage will only get better now that they have merged with Sprint, sharing towers, etc.
The direct connect is very convenient where my friends, family and coworkers have the same. Cell phone wise, I got hooked up with a plan for 1000 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends and unlimited text messaging. Combined with the free regional direct connect (unlimited) and insurance for the phone, my bill averages about $75 a month including taxes. Not a bad deal.
I think Verizon seems to have the best coverage up here in NE... So I think I'd stick with them.. You could see if you could get them to throw in a new phone and clone it with your current number.

I had Cingular for 3 years and always had issues with coverage and service assistance not too mention the costs were higher for less talk time.
I have Nextel now & the only thing I like about it is the cost for the ammount of minutes I have. Otherwise I think the service and the Nextel reps suck. I have complained a few times about my service coverage and they can't do anythin about it, I have not seen any improvement since the buy out from Sprint..
Go with Verizon.. I have Verizon for my work phone and it is by far the best! Coverage is good everywhere! California, Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico (So,so) and very good in NE!!!
When my contract with Nextel is up I am switching my personal phone to Verizon.

My cell phone service is US Cellular , never had any problems with my account or service availbility,
I could even get a signal out on the deck at Treetops without having to ride up the road 2 miles the the pull over at the beginning of the Cherohala
But I would never do away with my land line

I have Sprint and I'll stick with them for many years to come.
I've had Verizon and while their coverage area is better than everyone elses, the call quality sucked. I had several different phones with them and it didn't seem to matter.
When I'm on my Sprint phone it's crystal clear and not like I'm using a CB Radio.
The bad side... Sprint has a lack of phone choices... they dont' seem to get all the cool new phones.
Who do the people you're going to call have?
With all the cellular companies offering free in service calling that can make a huge part of the decision.

I have nextel and I love it, but their service has gotten worse since Sprint took over. I would probably recommend sticking with Verizon. I only switched to Nextel because of work and friends having them made it easier.
Verizon has the best coverage around here.

You must upgrade your phone software and your phone periodically so it can pick up all the towers, proptocalls etc. If its 2 years old it probably must be replaced.
Verizon will give you a nice up to date cameraphone with a 2 year contract

I haven't had to upgrade my Nokia (it's prolly 5-6 years old) to get service from new towers, I don't have any problem roaming on systems other than US Cellular either, my contract is a northern NE contract, so even if I am roaming, anywhere in MA, VT, NH or ME, I do not get roaming charges, out of the contract area, no roaming charges if I can get into a US Cellular tower, and I haven't had problems anwhere I've been getting service even in the Great SmokiesOriginally posted by richw
