    Re: VOLKSWAGEN'S SUCK

    Not that cheap.

Timing belt was replaced. Less than 20 hours later, it failed. No engine damage luckily, but the dealership is being assholes about it.

They said TWICE that they would be replacing the timing belt tensioner as part of the "Timing belt package". Well, they didn't. And then they did after I asked about it. Of course, they did it and charged me another $300 on top of the $786 I already paid them.

They didn't even cover the total cost of the tow that THEY told me I needed to get it back to fix the faulty timing belt.

No Shit! We have a 99.5 Jetta that my fiance's aunt gave her. Thanks for the car, but couldn't it be American or Jap? You've got a POS car that costs 2x more to fix. You can't even jack the fuckers up because you need a special shaped jack pad to fit the unibody.

    What motor do you have?

For the 1.8t's and the V6's, get that timing belt/water pump done at 60k. Most will fail by 80k. Interference engine, NOT a good idea to let it fail.

    Re: VOLKSWAGEN'S SUCK

I just got a whopper of a repair bill for my truck. Just over $2500. Damn near stopped my heart. That's on an '05 Ford. It's not just the Germans that have crappy engineering. Rear disk brakes apparently weren't made to hold up to salt. It got new pads, rotors, calipers, rear backer plates, the whole ball of wax. It was over $1900 in parts alone. And that was from an independant trustworthy mechanic.

I'll say it once, I'll say it again.

It broke my heart when the Tacoma frame rusted out, but that was the best vehicle I've ever owned and Toyota kept me a happy customer.

That is incredible! I think my Civic has cost me $1000 in parts over the last 8 years, maybe.

I hear these stories and I question the rest of the vehicle's out there.

I'd lose my mind if I needed $2500 worth of brake work. In some cases that would be 10% of a vehicle's value?

    Re: VOLKSWAGEN'S SUCK

Yeah, it's just less than 10% of what I bought the truck for earlier this year. Thanks for pointing that out... Ouch. Again. I was all happy that I was riding my bike this summer, not driving the truck. Well, as I just learned, that's really bad for the truck.

No wonder Volkswagen doens't make trucks anymore - no one could afford the repairs!

Well thats too bad. I really like VW's and especially Audi's. Im sorry you are having trouble with it. Timing belts are the bane of almost all German cars though....

    Re: VOLKSWAGEN'S SUCK

The 1.8t has a 105k timing belt change. Just sold mine because I didn't want to pay for that. Plus nothing ever went on the car other than the water pump so I figured it was time. 96k no brakes, no shocks, no battery nothing but tires and the water pump. I'm sure the next guy will get another 100k out of it after he changes those things. Sorry for you bad luck though.
