Anyone work/worked for the sheriff's office as a CO? Going to an informational meeting this week, just looking for any additional insight you may have about the job, academy, etc.
LRRS EX #165 (formerly)
Try to do the MA Civil service test... More pay etc.. But you have a greater chance of being put somewhere that will get you shanked...
I have done the Civil service test years ago and have had a couple interviews but they haven't meet my number on the list .... (Due to veteran preference)
Are you a Veteran? "Non-white"? If so do the CO civil service and state police..
I have thought about applying for the Middlesex Sheriff (CO) but its just to much of a pay cut initially and I could not afford it
I am also interesting in someone posting more info on the county jobs... Hiring, interview, etc...

I have several family members who are middlesex county sheriffs as well as a close family friend who is a master electrician at a state prison. If you have any specific questions about the work environment I can ask.
I have heard many a sketchy story but overall they all like their job.
I work at WCSO. I will not get into a discussion about the place on a public forum. Feel free to PM me and I will help you out with whatever I can.
I had an interview 6yrs ago but didnt want to take a pay cut and work 3rd shift. my bud did it and now he's on 2nd and makes 62k a year. He just hates being locked up all day and everyday with them.....State police havent had an academy for 5 yrs.
I was a temp CO when I was younger.
You're an adult baby sitter. The inmates know the routine, same thing everyday besides the occasional fight or lunatic not obeying commands.
Also a large part has to do with the job inside the prison. If you're in the tower, you don't do shit. If you're on one of the tiers, its always busy.
Then again this was 10 years ago so maybe things changed.
The people suck. You know when you go out in public and you see that rare scumbag that no one likes? He smells, he's arrogent, an asshole.
Well imagine being surrounded by hundreds of them ,all different colors and they all hate you.
The worst part about the job is the first few years. Inmates get a lot of entertainment from trying to crack you. After you did you " initiation phas" You get their respect and as I said, becomes very mundane.
