Not sure where you looked but that's the average price on craigslist. Buying from a store they go for around 1500-1600 new.

The lowest reputable place has them either similarly priced or much higher for just the body alone. Then you have to pay shipping etc without ever seeing the camera.

Not to threadjack (but hey it'll keep you on page 1 )... Any recommendations on places to find inexpensive zooms for a Canon body? My parents bought a Canon-something last year, and now want to be able to "zoom in really close on stuff far away." I'd be fine with getting them something used, as long as I could "verify" that it was in good condition.

I know absolutely nothing about cameras except that digital zoom is worthless, nor do I have the time to research...but I'd like to avoid Pops going to the local camera shop and paying $40B for a $10B lens.

B&H isn't the best price you'll find, but they're rep is top notch and they stock everything. Shipping is very fast, as long as it isn't a jewish holiday.

I've also been happy ordering from adorama.com. I recently ordered a 'white box' Canon lens from them that was in a retail box, with warranty, and otherwise indistinguishable from the full price deal. I think they buy camera + lens kits from Canon and then split up the kit and sell the body and lens separately for way less. Which is fine by me.

I've also bought from beachcamera.com successfully. Although their selection is significantly less impressive.
