Thinking about selling my SVs come spring.
Stats:
2005 SV650S, single owner
Approximately 22K miles, tracked twice (slow group both times).
Dropped a couple times at 0-2mph, never "crashed"
Carbon Fiber exhaust
Basically, I haven't ridden the thing more than 1,000 miles since my daughter was born, and I don't know if it is worth hanging onto for the next few years while I am unemployed and staying home with her (i.e. no free time to ride, let alone cash flow). Given its age and miles, I doubt it is worth selling. It is completely paid off, so the only monetary savings would be the minimal registration fee every year. It's just that even when I have the chance to ride, I rarely want to, because I would rather be spending my time doing other things, and the poor machine needs its legs stretched.
So, what would you pay for it?

Compared to what I was looking at for my friend, I would say if you are lucky $4k... $3k pretty easily when it is peak riding season. All depends on how bad those blemishes are.
I am toying with the idea of getting one for my son, looking on CL recently, I have seen 05's as low as $2600. Obviously, milage condition etc all play a factor and at the end of the day it depends what someone is willing to pay.
I am selling his 05 EX250 for $1500 and in comparison, there are plenty all over CL for $2K but not selling.
I think $3k is a reasonable price. Miles are a bit higher than some other examples on CL going for $3200 etc, but I wouldn't say much lower than that. I've seen a couple 2nd gen SVS with ~15k miles asking $2900, but those are few and far between.
Honestly, my worry was that people would see 22K miles and go "Whoa, not for a 'beginner bike', no way! 5 Dollah!"
The irony is that over 21,000 of those miles were put on before 2009.

My initial gut said 4k... but yeah, market price is probably more like 3250-3500.
Don't forget to note that it's got full fairings.

That'd be from a dealer; private sales are lower.

Go fast. Have fun. Repeat.
It's all about timing... sell when the season is hot, get top dollar... now.. well prepared to sell low.
With my daughter I get to ride only on the weekends and occasionally to work, it's enough for me to keep one bike aroundI've been pretty lucky, every year I sell my bike around peak season and buy one at the end of the season cheap. I love to try different bikes, and if I can do it by breaking even or making a little money, then that's great, the wife doesn't complain!
Timing is key.

Hey I like to do the same thing. Note my signature.. I shoot for buying the bike for NADA trade in and sell for alittle under NADA retail. Waiting around until a good deal comes along on both ends both selling and buying.
If your not in a rush to sell the bike, keep it listed on craigslist for your ideal price and then if you really want it sold drop it down a bit. But if you keep it on the top of the list and don't accept low offers the right buyer will eventually come along who really wants that exact bike. That said you have a newer, but low quality bike with higher miles and damage I would say try to sell for about 2700-2800$ you could try and wait it out and do 3200$. Also bikes seem to do pretty well peak to beginning of the season on ebay, they just charge an arm and a leg and often the buyer hasn't inspected the bike so you may get issues with that when they see it in person.
Other tips for getting a good price are to sell to newbies. They don't know what they're doing and don't know what a good price is for a bike. So market it as a good beginner bike, even though it is more of an intermediate bike. If you look at CL there are alot of over inflated prices, because there are people trying to get out of a bike they financed or a bike they paid way to much for and want to brake even. These bikes will probably never sell at the asking prices, but it makes newbies looking at the prices think that these prices are somewhat fair and this can be a way of taking advantage when you have your bike actually fairly priced, they think it's a steal.
Offering to deliver within reason to a newbie also adds alot of value when they maybe don't have gear or a license or the confidance to take it 45 minutes in heavy traffic down I90.
Don't sell to people who bring their dad or uncle to look at it. They're usually super critical and are trying to prove how much the know about bikes and can be a pain in the ass if you don't know how to deal with them. I'll usually stay 100% firm on the price if I see they brought someone who supposedly knows about bikes. Your also out numbered unless you brought your buddies as well so it makes for a more intimidating situation that could lead to wavering in the price department.
You don't want to usually bring your buddies though, because that can also be intimidating to the buyer and make them back out rather than ask for a few bucks off the price.
Also if your price is too high buyers will either pass your ad by and look elsewhere or try and field you along with about 20 others looking for a good negotiation. You usually want the buyer who will pay asking price or close to it so ask only a small amount more than what your willing to take. Everyday low prices has worked for the greatest retail superpower in the world, it can work for you too. Do a search for your bike where ever you list it, and make sure that your bike is the best deal, by a small margin within reason. This will guarantee interest.

Buy high, sell low, that's always been my policy!
Seriously though, I didn't look too close, but I thought your SV was pretty clean. It has that lower fairing kit too, which has to be somewhat rare, no? I looked at a couple of the low-priced SVs out there on CL earlier this summer and was appalled at how effed up they were. I think SVs have a tendency to be beat.
'Stroms are even worse though. I can truthfully say that.

When do you think prices are the highest?
Boats usually peak in mid-June because everyone wants one for the 4th of July.
I think the SV650S may have lower resale value than the naked models. I bought my 08 SV650SF (lower fairing, a $500 extra) exactly one year ago today for about what naked SV's seemed to be going for. It had 1,400 miles and not a scratch on it.
Bought and sold several bikes on eBay. Sold my HD Roadster and got less for it than I'd been offered locally, so that will be a last resort henceforth.

“It's 2 minutes for any capable adult.”
My guess? Prices are highest early in the spring, before bike-week in Laconia. Lowest in late November/early December, just before xmas.
But that's a guess. I don't really know.
Surprised the plastic clad SV's go for less. I would expect that to go the other way. Always figured the nekkid SV was the red-headed stepchild here in the US market.
Don't forget to write like a normal person and spell sort of correctly if you make a Craigslist ad.

I have my 2004 grey Suzuki SV650S I'm asking $2500 OBO, I not happy with selling it, but bills come first. I got over my head in det so I need to sell her. This bike is super fast I'm surprised how much power this bike has everytime I ride it's unbeleavable I think how fast it is. well lets just say the spec's say 0 to 60mph in 4seconds, you cann't tell me it isn't fast when one of the top Ferrari's in the world this year only goes 0 to 60mph in 3.6seconds, yes I no I'm not stupid a bike and a car are different but still I think that shows how fast it is. It even has a aftermarket pipe in it, theirs arround 26000 miles on it, the tire are almost brand new, has winker rear blinker kit, runs great, drives well alot better the awsome I think atleast. Email, Text, or Call(802)-345-0035 me an offer or if you want to come look at it.
