I haven't even had a chance to talk to my insurance company yet, but I'm trying to get an idea of what this bike would be worth if I didn't want to keep it and fix it myself but still buy it back from them. The engine has about 16,000 miles on it, but since the gauges are destroyed you'll have to take my word for it.
The bike flipped onto it's nose and slid down an embankment, and the list of damage includes:
-gas tank (scratched with one small dent on the left side)
-headlight, gauges, and all related brackets are destroyed
-mirrors
-rear brake pedal
-tail section (still usable, just scratched and chipped)
-passenger grab handle (also usable, but scratched)
-sub frame may be tweaked slightly
-handlebars are bent slightly (usable, but should be replaced)
-scratches on the exhaust can (Holeshot)
It also has surface rust from spending lost of time outside (on the triples and on the right side of the bike mostly)
But! I rode it for 1,500 miles after the crash and it seemed to ride straight, the levers didn't break, handlebar switches, though scratched, work fine (high beam, kill switch, horn, blinkers, etc), it shifts fine, and the engine runs fine.
The chain has less than 5,000 miles on it, front tire (Pilot Power 2CT) is only 500 miles old, rear tire should probably be replaced soon (Road Attack with at least 4,000 miles, maybe closer to 6,000). Has heated grips, DL hand guards (scratched from the crash), motosliders frame sliders and swing arm sliders/spools, and currently has a Sargent seat with Buell footpeg mod done (1" lower) but both of those could be removed.
The title is currently clean, but who knows if I can keep it that way or not (I'm guessing not).
I can get pictures if there is any actual interest.
head over to SVrider and part it out!
Seat is fine, I'd let it go for $200 or best offer. It has like 4,000 miles on it (3,000 miles of it from the trip down to the Dragon and back, plus other misc miles). I already stapled the rear seat cover to my rear seat, but I could probably remove it without much harm done to it.
I forgot to mention that the steering head bearings probably need to be replaced too.
I'm going to post up on svrider as well, but keeping it local would be easier and I thought somebody here might like a little track bike project (which I might still do, but I want to weigh all of my options).
You looking for estimates?

Sargent. I also have the stock seat in mint condition, which would be put back on if I were to sell the bike or let the insurance company take it.
Are you selling the bike? And How much?
I don't know if I'm selling the bike or not. It depends on how much my insurance company gives me and how much they want for the buy back. The price I'm willing to accept will depend on both of those factors as well.
This thread tells us nothing.

I just bought a house, so money is tight. Plus I don't want to spend all summer sourcing parts for a rebuild.
I was trying to gauge interest, I'll be speaking with my insurance agent on Monday to file the claim, I should know more next week as far as what ballpark I'd be looking to get for the bike. I was hoping I could start at $2k and negotiate from there.
$2k sounds like a lot of money for what is going to be a salvage title bike. I bought a nice 2007 SV650S with 25k miles on it in great shape for $3k last winter. Not bashin... just saying...
2k is trade in value on the bike.

And this is why I wanted to wait to post a price, because I have no idea what kind of numbers the insurance agent is going to throw around. If the buy back is $750 then obviously I don't expect $2k.

My insurance agent is really starting to piss me off. They had been pretty good up until now, but he keeps saying he'll call me back and never does (at least 3 times now) and when I call back he just says he'll have to call me back. I'll try to get some pictures, but I still don't know what I'm doing with the bike.
can i have the engine...?
Well I finally got a hold of the insurance company and got the claim process started, so hopefully I'll have more info soon.
I finally have the numbers, and I'm shocked. They valued the bike at $89 more than I paid for it 3 years agoThat means I don't even feel the need to haggle, as I'm more than satisfied with the amount (payout is $3,089.33 after my deductible, bike was valued at $3,589.33). However, the buy back is $1,436. I don't see it being worth my time and effort to fix it, part it out, or sell it, so I think I'm going to let them take it. I will, however, be selling the Sargent seat and the Motosliders, assuming I can find the original engine bolt. I'll be trying to reply to all of the PMs that I got.
I'm sending in the paperwork this week. $1700 takes it. If I don't have any PMs by Wednesday it's sold to the insurance company.
will have salvage title correct?
