I have a 94' honda civic needs some work.
Ill let it go for 850$ as is 850$ plus parts if you want me to get it running.
It started last month no problem, but the alternator froze up and the belt snapped. easy fix. its been out of commission since august of last year. (i started working at home)
needs
rear brake lines (they work but leak very very slowly)
radiator (overheats only on the highway alot of the fins are missing)
alternator and belt
tires (for inspection)
its not alot considering ill fix it and sell it for twice that easy.
its a cheap car and good on gas.
I don't want to thread jack but I have a serious question?
Why do you want to buy your sister an unreliable cheap car, especially when she's pregnant? I mean, I'm all for the term "to each their own", but I envision some pregnant lady stranded on the side of the road cursing her brother out for buying her a cheap ass car. You know as well as I do that when it comes to cars, you get what you pay for. There's nothing that'll drive you more insane then an unreliable car and sinking money into it constantly.
Again, I'm just curious what your rational is behind this?
Also, check out craigslist, they have a ton of cheap cars listed.

We just had a baby, I couldn't imagine her having a crapper. If you like, pm me, I have buddies in quincy on copeland street that fix up hondas and such and then sell them. The car would be sorted to the point where I would put my wife in it with the child, it may cost more, but maybe a payment plan can be worked out.

mostly all used cars cost $4,000 one way or another; so can you or her shell out?
I don't even know where you are... but I know a few people that have had great luck with Jok's on 3a in Hudson.

I remember when someone on the old website before ODFU (can't even rmember the name) sold me an old '91 Toyota Camry for $500....that car was running like a champ. Never had real issues with it and it was good on gas. I sold it back a year later for the same amount. Heard of the woman who bought it from me months later, and she loved it. IT IS possible to find a good used car for cheap...you just need to ask around and get a deal from someone I guess. Good luck with that...
Umm yeah, sorry I don't know anyone...but I'll keep a ear open. lol

Let me be a it clearer. My sister IN-LAW has no car. She is living with her aunt and using her pos escort. She needs to move out of there, but needs a car to due so. Yes you can find a decent car for a good price. (Hell I know someone who just found a 91 cutless that has 30k miles on it. It was owened by an old lady in Cali. He payed $1500. And no I would not have believed it until I seen it.) So for multipull reasons she only has about 1500 for a car. I will have to do all the work to the car.
She is in Centeral Ma and it would not be bad to drive a bit for a good value.
R1 That Civic sounds about in her range, but again it would be me fixing it. How many miles?

Go down to rt 20 in Worchester. It's full of wholesalers. I bought my Jeep from one there 4 years ago for $700. Other than maintainence and a stupid electrical short I have had no problems with it. Just make sure you know what you are looking at.
I haven't payed over $1000 for a vehicle since 1987 and I have never had one not last a few years. The trick is to look while you dont need one.

I need to keep my useless/helpful post ratio to 99/1. Today is your lucky day.:
The guy with the tiger on his roof sells some good stuff. He is more than $1K though. The only other guy there I bought from was at the far end with the white and blue building. He also doesn't have much for under $3K. As long as you are careful and know a couple things about cars you should be ok. I believe Mass law requires an inspectable vehicle.

it's called the lemon aid law... something about a mv sold that doesnt pass inspection and if the cost of repairing the problem so it does pass is more than 20% of the sale cost, the buyer can ask for a refund... something like that.
just google Lemon Aid law MA.
