Well after this weekend it became evident that I need to concentrate on one bike, so it comes time to sell my EX500.
The bikes a 1991 with a full 17" conversion, Fox double clicker rear shock, custom case guards, clipons, stainless steel lines, EBC floating front rotor, Woodcraft rearsets, and I think thats it. The bikes PTwins legal.
Bike has Pilot Race tires, look a bit shagged, but I would expect another 1/2 season of full time racing out of them.
Comes with Spare wheels with pilot powers on them.
Pile of spares, including some rear set parts, custom dogbones that I never bothered to put on, and a whole bunch of random shit.
Bill Of Sale with it.
$1500

Dog Bones legal in PTwin? If they are I may want a set - if not yours where can I find a set?
A strict interpretation of the rules says no, I don't see anyone calling you out for it through.
Lets see if you can post this bike for sale as long as the ZX6R.
Throw it on Craigslist!

Is this a good trackday bike? I'm looking at possibly getting a track only bike, doing 4 or 5 TTD's next year, and maybe getting into racing the 2011 season...thoughts without being a sales man...
How much would it take to pretty it up a bit? I like pretty bikes![]()
I have an EX500 similar to DB's (although mine doesn't have rearsets, so if you find that foot position to be too far back to be comfortable we could always swap, I'd even throw in a case of beer)
I love it. Awesome track day bike. I did the Boston Moto track day with it yesterday. A few interesting tidbits.
1) I used ~2 gallons of gas all day. Something like 9 20 minute sessions, riding all out. OK, 8 sessions and change, we'll get to that. Most bikes there ran through what was in their tank and 5 gallons, I ended up giving someone some gas and other people ran out to buy some. I never added gas, and it never even got down to the hump in the tank. Maybe someone else can chime in on what they used for gas that day.
2) I crashed it in T3. A $15 brake lever and less than 10 minutes later I was re-teched and ready to go back on the track. I don't think anyone else actually crashed and was able to ride again that day.
3) Really, really user friendly bike.
I'd recommend one. Especially if you could be convinced to part with the rearsets once you get it![]()
Hey now, they may not be Duc's, but they can look a lot better than yours with a little paint from Autozone and a little TLC. I don't think mine looks too bad - IMO it's the green that's killing you.
Yours has a race tail too, it could look even better.
To the asking person: If you're not willing/able to paint yourself Kitt will do it for short $.

What type of speeds does it carry around the track? I'm new to track days for the most part but the one I did I was riding my Z1k, I know the EX will handle much better, but how will they compare otherwise?
I know probably dumb questions...but I'm pretty new to the whole track scene..
They aint no 600s, but they go decently. The fast guys on EXs are into the 20s for lap times. Motards hit 17s, the real fast 600s are into the 10s. Fast enough to be fun, slow enough that you aint shitting yourself with hot fast youre going.
I know Pete (Oreo) brougth his to VIR a couple years ago and said it went decently down there.
It's a great track bike for NHMS. It's an okay trackbike for VIR (south is good, north you will need to bring a sandwich for the front straight but the rest of the track is fun). It's probably not the best bike for NJMP (from what I'm told).
Riding the EX really helped me with my trackday riding. It's not a modern bike, and this can really help out there, suprisingly. The wiggles and shakes that come with a steel framed, poorly suspended motorcycle will let you know what you're doing wrong long before it spits you off in a magnificent highside. This is a good thing, it gives you an opportunity to correct what you're doing wrong and slowly wrangle more speed out of the thing.
DB's EX is probably one of the prettiest race-ready EX500s you can buy. With that said, he's right, an EX500 will only get so pretty. But pretty bikes are pavement magnets. Learn to ride ugly.
They're down on power compared to the bigger bikes, obviously. That said, I think the Loudon track record is 1:10s, and a 1:17 was done on an EX. 7 seconds off track record... not too shabby. A few of the experts run 1:20s on them on a somewhat regular basis.
More track-day speak, I was doing more passing than getting passed in intermediate group at the track day yesterday (excluding the control riders). I've got penguin race school + 3 races expereince total, yesterday was my first track day.

If you want to 'purty' it up, Airtech makes replacement bodywork, including a full fairing kit. You can chrome the frame and case guards, powdercoat the wheels, etc.
Or, you can ride the piss out of it as is, and have a cheap mount that will always be capable of going faster at Loudon than you're likely to be able to muster, unless your last name starts with 'W' and ends with 'ood'... nothing in between. : )
Cheap to maintain, braindead simple to work on, and I swear the EX guys can build at least 3 complete machines from their spares collection trackside, while you watch if you supply beer for the evening. Perfect track mule.
If you still have this after December it's mine. lol. With you're track record it's completely possible. Ha

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
