Are winter beaters still a thing?

This is a one owner vehicle that my son's had since he got his license.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 160k.

It's a little rough, some dents in the tailgate, but it functions. The undercarriage is rusty, but the only body rust is around the rear wiper spindle. It needs rear calipers, rotors and pads. This probably only makes sense if you're cheap and will do all the work yourself.

Most of all, I'd like to avoid dealing with dealers.
