A friend of my mother's is looking to buy a late 70's or early 80's KZ1000, KZ1100, Z1, or something along those lines. Doesn't have to be a Kawi but those are the examples I was told. (kinda funny that this came up within days of showing my mom those old Kawi vids of them racing these machines).
I thought some of you guys might have (or know of) something like these laying around that might be up for sale. No rush, the guy looking is in florida until may or so but I figured I'd look around.
Ryan if he's unfamiliar with old Kawi's tell him to focus on a Z1-R, they're proving to be the most collectible - If he's got $ to burn try for a Z1R-TC. I've had a couple KZs, the KZ1100 is a pale and a straight Z1 is older and will probably have drum rears and single disc in front. and its gotta have a Kerker on it.

thanks man....i'll pass along the info. any links or anything I can give him? on values, specific differences, whatever....
I barely even know the guy, I think he's just looking for the same kinda bike he grew up around.
*76 KZ900 LTD is/was soposed to be the collectors dream bike but you can still buy em pretty cheap
*76 - 79 Kz 1000's (LTDs) are all pretty much the same and all a great choice. tons of them out there and a lot have a lot of custom stuff already installed. If he's not focussed on stock tell him he wants on that already has an extended swing arm, steering stabilizer and after market wheels. all can be real expensive to buy new. GS1000 aluminum swing arm was popular upgrade because the down side to a KZ is their super short, just don't go 6"+, it'll look like ass. I have one and a bunch of side covers, a duck tail and stuff above my garage if he needs.
*the Z1R Classic (also known as a G model) was fuel injected with chrome on the tank - not really worth the 70s fi problems and its just an LTD without the duck tail.
*78-80 Z1R, imho the best choice, on the rare end and I'd look for one thats all original
Tell him to peek at the wiring and make sure the fuse block doesn't show signs of heat, their old bikes and worth looking out for.
I'm no authority but feel free to send him my e-mail so he can send me links to prospective bikes and I'll throw my 2 cents in.
I've got a 79 kz1000 that he can have for $200.
LOL
I had a 1983 KZ1100. Bought it with 7300 original miles. Thing was cherry!
A decent cruising bike that's for sure.
Effing wierd ..... my neighbor is looking for a similar ride for the same reasons. wants to return to his youth .....and riding after a 20 year hiatus due to having kids .... cool and sad at the same time

hardcore, if you have a chance take a pic of the carbs, I just need to see the side of one.
I actually have a 76 KZ900 i might be looking to unload. the motor has under 10k on it. ITs BEEN SITTIng for a few years. Definitely a little bit of a project, ie. the carbs, fluids, possibly tires if there dry rotted , im not sure , i gotta look. its been sitting in one of my sheds. cosmetically its pretty good with the exception of some rust on the pipes and a few other small spots like the springs. The thing hauled major ass when it was running and on the road a few years back. oh yeah, theres a small ding on the tank that cut into the paint because of a f'in wheel barrel that tipped over off the wall and smacked it. I"VE been thinking about restoring it to look show room condition but i dont have the time or the desire anymore.
nice, i'll let him know....like I said there really isn't a big rush. I'm sure when he gets back from florida i'll resurrect this thread
