Offering up my dear friend Squishy. He identifies as a 1984 Honda VF1000F Interceptor...probably the fastest bike ever made.
I am certain I'll regret selling him, but he's not getting used much, and I don't have the space to store him properly.
Squishy and I have lived together for about 6 years, and he's been the most reliable motorcycle I've ever owned. As a result, I've owned him longer than almost any other bike. He's been my backup/winter bike through that time, and occasional woods/ADV rig. I planned to turn him into a proper ADV bike with longer forks, taller shock, spoked wheels and some crash bars, but that hasn't happened yet. If he doesn't sell, it might happen over the winter.
Here's the deets:
These were only sold in the US for a year or two, and clean examples are really valuable. This one, however, is not clean. It was in rough cosmetic shape when I bought it six years ago, and it has been my backup/winter bike for those years. I ride it all winter (it easily supports heated grips/gear) and on fire roads and double track. It has been all over New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania; I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the most reliable motorcycle I've ever owned.
The good:
- Dead reliable. Never even a hint of an issue. Ride it anywhere today.
- All lights and horn work
- New heated grips this winter
- New chain
- Newer front tire
- New HD tubes in both tires
- Fresh oil change
- Forks rebuilt a few years ago
- New front brake MC and pads a few years ago
- New clutch MC
- Sick vintage V&H exhaust
- Clean title
The bad:
- Bodywork is rough...I repeat, the bodywork is rough (inside of the tank is rust-free though)
- The rear grab handles broke off at the subframe. I TIG welded them, and they broke again while I was moving it the other day. They're cast aluminum. I was going to make new hardcore steel ones, but you can do that if you want.
- Missing the battery cover. Been this way forever because it's hard to find. I've come across a few, but they're all mint and that would just look ridiculous.
- Speedometer stopped working in January at 13,XXX; doesn't have more than 15k on it. Haven't looked into why it stopped, but the cable probably broke at ludicrous speed.
- Gas gauge only seems to work above 3/4 tank, haven't looked into it
- Temperature gauge doesn't work, haven't looked into it
- Starter button sticks sometimes, needs the contacts cleaned, or just deal with it. Been this way forever.
- Rear tire has plenty of tread, but is getting unevenly worn in the center. I may have a new replacement for it, in which case it'll go with the bike.
I'd love to trade it for something vintage and cool. Since I have to put a price on it, I'll say $1000 takes Squishy home.
GOOD HOMES ONLY!

Honestly, that thing is pretty friggen badass!!!!
Rat Honda... love your passion and bumper sticker.
Hah...thanks. It gets a lot of funny double and triple takes. Like, "oh cool, MadMax bike", "oh wait it's just an old Honda", "oh wait it's a VF1000!"
Fantastic! Looks like a great RTW bike
And don't believe everything you think.
I can't believe this thing hasn't sold yet. If I can get my truck project under control this winter I'll drag it home in the spring. Hopefully it loads a bit smoother than the last one lol.
Somebody buy this thing so I don't have to. Please.
On the cutting edge of mediocrity.
buuuuuuuuump
If I showed up to Rice a Rama on this and entered it into the show would they love it or want to kill it with fire? I'd like to do that and place a few gopro's in strategic locations to listen to everyone's comments.
Send cash... I need a track day
