Ugh... so my car is rated for up to 2000lbs, I need a small trailer that will hold my bike plus a few other things. Anyone know someone selling one or where I can buy one?

4 x 6 trailer $399
that's a pretty darn good deal for a small trailer.
I think I'm going to go with this one

They have it in stock and its only $200 more than renting one from Uhaul.

If you time it right just get a 20 day NH plate to get you out there then get a Ca plate.
Make sure you take a good look at the TSC trailers in person before you commit to buying one. I was looking last year before a trip, and although they're cheap, that's about it. The frames look to be engineered to be just strong enough for the rated load, all of the trailers on the lot in Rutvegas already had rust on them, and the advice of the salesperson was to rattlecan it with something like Rustoleum if I didn't want it rusting.
When I did some research online, it appeared that the trailer kits (assembly required, all pieces included) from the better eBay dealers, Northern Tool, or Harbor Freight were actually more solid options if you can wait out the ship time. If you can pick one up retail at a Harbor Freight, that might be an even better alternative.
I ended up buying a used, older, and better-built trailer off Craigslist; there's a large portion of luck involved, of course.
Oh, and definitely look into the CA registration--I think some western states do one-time registration per owner on small utility trailers, and that would cover you legally (I wouldn't want to drive cross-country with no plate whatsoever on a trailer, although YMMV).
all states have different laws Jackie. gross vehicle has a lot to do with plating and regging a trailer. a little bit of homework will save you headaches later ...... as everyone else has kinda already stated .... but differently ...
p.s. Maine has one time reggy / or is it mail in reggy something like that and you could go any where in the country

you can't use an enclosed trailer I assume? My buddy just moved back from CA and should arrive tonight. He bought a small enclosed trailer for his bike/stuff and wants to sell it when he arrives most likely.

+1 on the bearing buddies and the grease gun. Absolutely worth it, ESPECIALLY on a cross country trip. The BBs are an easy install, using the grease gun is tits simple... def. go that route if you get a cheap trailer that does not already have them.
I know where you could pick up a real cheap small trailer, but I don't think it's up for a cross country trip. I think it's 15" wheels, has a PT frame around it... I'll swing by and take a look at it tonight. I'm pretty sure the bearings and general condition/time sitting are going to have me telling you to pass though.
Go with the Tractor Supply trailer and make sure it's all greezed up. It'll cost next to nothing to regi the thing. Even my big ol' 7 x 12 footer only cost like $30 to regi...
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Also a good way to go is mailing yourself some boxes - I did this when i toured around the country and accumulated some stuff. That way if you can cram it into your car - it will probably get their before you!
Getting back into the game! Looking for my next bike!
